Hello Friends of Parlando, I have been fortunate to have had many wonderful musical experiences in my life. One of my favorite experiences was during college at Lehigh University when I would go into Baker Hall to listen to the orchestra rehearsing. I would sit near the back of the hall doing homework and listen to rehearsals. It was fascinating to hear a piece of music being literally "put together." Some rehearsals would be a lot of starts and stops as detailed nuances were worked out; others would be near-concert level quality as the orchestra would run through entire pieces.
Little did I know when I first started going to these rehearsals that one day I would ask the Principal Oboe player out on a date and that we would end up getting engaged on that same concert stage...And all of these years later would be married with two children!
This year Colorado Mahlerfest will be celebrating it's 28th Season. This will also be the final season for Robert Olson, the founding conductor of the annual festival, will be at the podium. Because of this, and because of the festival's strong support of student participation in music, the Mahlerfest organizers are offering FREE attendance at their final rehearsal with the purchase of a ticket to one of the performances. Additionally, at the end of the rehearsal Mr. Olson and members of the symphony will be available for a "talk-back" with Q&A from audience members.
Here are the details - Friday, May 15th 7pm: Rehearsal and Talk-Back - FREE to attend with the purchase of a ticket to at least one of the weekend performances
- Saturday, May 16 7:30pm: Performance at Macky Auditorium featuring Mahler's last symphony, Symphony #9
- Sunday, May 17 3:30pm: Performance at Macky Auditorium featuring Mahler's last symphony, Symphony #9
