Hello Friends of Parlando,

I am writing to update you about our makeup and cancellation policies at Parlando.  In an effort to support the best learning environment for our students while attracting and retaining the best faculty in the region, we occasionally need to make changes to different policies.  The updated policies below have two substantive changes.  The policies read as follows:

All cancellations require a minimum of 24 hours notice (you must contact your instructor directly; be sure to have up-to-date contact information). In order to support the best learning environment for students and respect the time of our professional instructors, no more than one credit may be carried over from one semester to another. Instructors will be as flexible as possible to accommodate demanding schedules, however, students who miss their weekly lesson time may not be able to receive a makeup and will not receive more than one credit transfer from one semester to the next.  There are no makeups or credits offered for students who miss group classes/lessons.

Please note that the substantive changes that have been made are:

1) Limiting one (1) credit to transfer from one semester to the next.  Our previous policy allowed two (2).  This change will take place for credits being moved from the Fall 2013 Semester into the Spring 2014 Semester and thereafter; Summer 2013 registrants can still carry two (2) credits into the Fall 2013 Semester.
2) Students who miss their weekly lesson time "may not be able to receive a makeup."  This change has been instituted to help prevent the expectation that our instructors will always be able to offer a makeup.  Instructors are paid hourly and have commitments outside of their work at Parlando.  If students frequently cancel and reschedule their lessons it can affect the instructor's weekly compensation and can make scheduling other commitments challenging.  This change is meant to address both of these concerns.  We have found it to be either consistent with policies for most other activities, or more lenient (for example, extra soccer practices are not scheduled for players who miss practice).

A continuing exception to these changes is that, if cancellations are due to a teacher's inability to be present for a scheduled lesson, the student will be entitled to a makeup OR an additional credit transfer to the next semester.

Some instructors who have very dense schedules may have additional parameters around the Parlando makeup policy.  We are working with them to make sure that any differences are in line with the Parlando mission and philosophy.

Should you have any questions about these changes, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Best,
