DANADOUGLASA Father's Salvation Following Visit to Jill's House -- Days Before His Passing
Volunteer Spotlight: Dana Douglas
Dana Douglas JH: How has volunteering at Jill's House changed your life?

DD: By seeing first-hand how Jill's House has touched so many lives in so many ways, including my father's. My father had a soft heart for people and especially children with special needs. He loved Jill's House and he could see how happy it made me and loved that I had found a great place to serve. I know the love of Christ flows through Jill's House and that had a positive effect on my father. Following a recent visit to Jill's House, he gave his life to Christ -- just two days before he passed away. He told me shortly before he passed that he loved Jill's House and encouraged me to continue volunteering and do anything and everything I can to help serve more children. Read more.

Family Spotlight: The Towers

July 2013 Family Story
Watch this video to learn more about ways Jill's House helps strengthen marriages for families like the Towers.

"Jill's House has made a significant impact on our marriage," said Heather Tower, mother of Jill's House guests Samuel, 8, and Jonathan, 6.

"Raising two children with special needs is not easy, and Jonathan's significant developmental delays, autism, and hypotonia, meaning he has decreased muscle tone, make his challenges even greater."

"Our extended families live far away, and our boys are high maintenance and very loud, so we truly need respite. With much responsibility comes much fatigue, and marriages like ours are fragile. When our boys are at Jill's House, where Samuel loves to ride the big pedal bike on the playground and Jonathan enjoys the music room and swimming in the pool, we relish every moment. The 48 hours that our boys are at Jill's House are sacred to us. We have quiet, uninterrupted, special time that we otherwise wouldn't have. We usually talk a lot, laugh, relax, ride our bikes together, enjoy quiet dinners, and play catch-up on much needed items around the house."

LFLOLinks for Little Ones Golf Tournament on October 14

Celebrate special children and enjoy a great day of golf.

Spend Columbus Day with a fun day of golf and bring more families to Jill's House.

APPRECIATIONDINNERJill's House Hosts Volunteer Appreciation Dinner

Recognizing friends dedicated to supporting the families of Jill's House.

On Wednesday, July 17, Jill's House hosted a special volunteer appreciation dinner attended by 30 of our volunteers and their families.

volunteer appreciation dinner
We were honored to recognize the faithful volunteers who serve Jill's House families.

"We feel we can never thank our volunteers enough," said Sara Potter, volunteer program coordinator at Jill's House. "They are a humble group of people with servant hearts, and we literally could not serve the number of children we do without their unselfish, ongoing support. This dinner was just a small gesture to let them know that their support makes a real difference in the lives of families raising children with special needs."

The event acknowledged the 21,000+ volunteer hours given in 2012 and included special words of thanks from the families we serve.

To learn more about ways you can volunteer at Jill's House, visit jillshouse.org/serve, email sara.potter@jillshouse.org or call 703.639.5671.

What Our Families Are Saying

"My son had a great time at Jill's House Blue Ridge. He really enjoyed participating in activities that typical kids get to do. He talked for days about swimming, climbing the ropes course, and the staff.

This weekend really was a blessing for our family. While our son got to have new experiences and build his confidence, as well as his social skills, my husband and I got a chance to bond and really focus on us and our relationship, which was a much-needed occurrence.

I was at my wit's end before this experience and, honestly, I was starting to lose my faith and really feel hopeless. This whole experience has really renewed my faith starting with our intake experience with Annie.

This was proof that God answers our prayers just at the right time. Thank you so much and may God continue to bless all of you abundantly."
