"Good morning! Are you aware of the hustle and bustle of people running here and running there looking for happiness and fulfillment but rarely headed in the right direction to actually find it? I'm always thinking about this as I drive down the highway watching people speeding in order to get somewhere fast in their day. My thoughts wonder how many of them actually get there.
You can pass one car with two people in it and tell they are complaining about something that strongly bothers them by their expressions and the violent waving of their arms; while another car has both people staring at opposite sides of the road with solemn faces as if they are mad at each other over something that has happened.
You can also look at those going in and coming out of a grocery store and see that some are absorbed with the contentment of having a full basket of food items, whereas another person with several children rolls out of the store with their basket and with hardly anything in it, where no doubt they had little money but with so many to feed.
Some people you will see on the golf course with no seemingly care in the world but the game itself, but I always wonder if that is the truth. Maybe one of them is considering suicide over their financial collapse, or one may be chumming up with some corporate big wigs in hopes of securing a position in the company that he will never get.
It seems everywhere you look there is a story unfolding in the faces of the passing people that you may never see again. In fact, it's as if you are briefly seeing up close their lives but the farther they get out of sight they are immediately forgotten as if they never existed. Closed eyes, distancing, and utterly ignoring, are the usual methods we use to mind our own business.
However, as a believer and follower of Christ we are to live with our eyes and ears wide open. Able to discern the needs of our neighbor. Ready to give an answer for the hope we have in Jesus. People by the masses are strolling through life in desperation not knowing where they are going. Whereas, many are being crushed within, and without a soul who even cares.
Jesus has called us to the task of noticing these things and has given us the heart to do something about it. Don't be fooled to believe happiness is found only in what you can discover for yourself...happiness is the culmination of caring about others and the love that compels you to get involved in their life to lend a hand.
As Christians we should exhibit the greater charitableness in the lives of friends, loved ones, and total strangers because of the love and kindness that we have received of The Lord ourselves. This morning as you move throughout the day, take note of the passing people and see if you don't sense a story unfolding as you look intently upon their faces. It's all there, you just have to take notice.
If you do this, I'm sure the heart of God in you, will show you what you can possibly do for them no matter if its small or great. Whether its a kind word, a helping hand, a gift, or some other jester from your Christlike nature that genuinely cares for them. Don't become so absorbed with your own life that you don't notice anyone else's." ~Dad~ |
