Real Issues. Real Answers. Keeping up with Technology
Not all that long ago, it was relatively affordable to stay abreast of the latest technology. Today, however, with the breakneck pace of newer/better/faster smartphones, tablet computers, laptops, etc., it would be wildly impractical for a LBM dealer to immediately and automatically upgrade to the latest/greatest gadget. Then again, considering the undeniable benefits of advancing technology, it can be just as impractical to not move forward. This month, readers weigh-in on the question of keeping up with technology. This month's question came from Pat Haines, an outside salesman with Arrow Building Center, Spooner, Wis. Pat wrote, "At what pace do you keep up with technology as we bounce from one new gadget to another? Do we react and jump on the new gadget as it comes available, or do we wait and see and risk missing the boat that leads us to the next new innovation and end up being behind the technology?"

Insight: Housing Improvement may Herald Return of U.S. Workforce Mobility
When David Pendery, a corporate public relations specialist, decided to move his family from Colorado to Illinois this year for work, his biggest worry was whether he would be able to sell his home quickly.
It took just three days.
"We certainly thought selling our house would take longer," said Pendery, who started in February at Kerry Ingredients, a flavoring provider for the food and beverage industries.

US Housing Market Passes Halfway Mark in Return of 'Normal'
Most of us already realize "normal" is relative. Yet, we are only human. And as such, we can scarcely stop ourselves from the very-human behavior of seizing every available opportunity to try to quantify and define the term.
Thanks to the folks at real estate data company Trulia, we don't need to try very hard to define what's "normal" for the housing industry. They've done it for us with the Housing Barometer, a monthly report that charts how quickly the housing market is moving back to normal based on the performance of construction starts, existing home sales and delinquency-plus-foreclosure rates. The barometer looks at how current conditions stack up against those recorded at the depths of the housing crisis and those recorded before the housing bubble burst.
