Bastillion's Bijoux Boutique

An eye-catching name isn't the only interesting thing about Bastillion's Bijoux Boutique! The name has emotional ties for owner, Susan Statser. With family roots in France, Bastillion was the original form of her maiden name, Bast. After fleeing France in 1665 during the French Huguenot War, it was shortened to Bast to help conceal their ties to France and keep the family safe. Calling again on her French roots, Bijoux is French for jewelry and Boutique...well, you can figure out that one!

Susan is no newbie to the jewelry industry. She began designing in 1990 and her own line of jewelry is a top seller in the boutique. Much of the jewelry she carries is made in the U.S., but there are also international lines from designers like Israel's trendy Ayala Bar. In addition to jewelry, the boutique carries clothing in sizes from xs to 3x, handmade mink purses and 3 Sisters jackets and handbags.

Opening in October of 2011, Susan credits SBDC Assistant Director, David Dickerson for helping her start the business. With his assistance, she learned where she was with her start-up, where she wanted to be and how to get there by using the business plan they completed through the SBDC.

Scam Alert!
For those of you who contract with the government or are considering it, we've received reports of companies claiming to be federal subcontractors and are charging $300-$600 to register businesses on the federal System for Awards Management (SAM) website.

Please remember that registration in the SAM system is TOTALLY FREE and don't fall victim to one of these scammers. If you'd like assistance registering in SAM or have questions about government contracting, please contact Rick Palmer with the WT Contract Procurement Center and he can help you free of charge! He can be reached at Rick@ContractProcurementCenter.com or 806-372-5151.

Unless you're a newborn (we're flattered that you already read our newsletter), 12/12/12 is likely the last repetitive date that any of us will ever see.
