Following professional development training, teachers at the N.E. Miles Jewish Day School have a different perspective on using a Gizmo for teaching. In fact, thanks to Explore Learning's Gizmo (an easier name than virtual manipulatives), students in grades 3 - 7 are learning about math and science through on-line simulation. Working independantly, collaboratively or on the SmartBoard, students develop a deep understanding of challenging math and science concepts through inquiry and exploration. Students in the 5th grade have been learning about density. Students in the 6th/7th grades have been completing physics and chemistry experiments on-line.
| Mason Berger, 6th grade, begins work on Gizmo. |
Students explore weight and mass and watch the changes as it's moved to another planet. Everything is interactive with multiple opportunities for investigation, experimentation and learning.
