From Ashima Scripp, Artistic Director

  Ashima Scripp
It's our 17th season - and we just keep getting better!!

This fall will see the release of our latest CD, due in October of this year, featuring the sublime music of the gifted Austrian composer Gerhard Schedl. As well, we look forward to continuing our engagement with the local community with concerts in Newton, the 8th installment of the Walden Chamber Players Young Artist Competition, the continuation of the Chamber Music ACK project - bringing high quality music education to the residents and schools of Nantucket - and a new concert series at the charming Dreamland Theater on the island of Nantucket. Of course, our season would not be complete without "taking the show on the road"! This year we are excited to feature return appearances on concert series in Bethlehem, PA and Syracuse, NY; and to add new venues in Gettysburg, PA and Cooperstown, NY to our season lineup.

It looks to be another exciting and stimulating season and we would love to welcome you at one of our events!

 A Voice No Longer Silent...

Schedl

After a year of fundraising, our first ever Kickstarter campaign, and many months of planning our newest CD is finally here! On November 1st we will officially release A Voice Gone Silent Too Soon: the music of Gerhard Schedl. The recording is truly near and dear to us as it is music we have studied, performed and shared for many years with audiences across the country and which we feel deserves to be heard by the public. Thanks to the incredible talents of our musicians, our recording engineer and our producers we have a top notch CD to add to Walden's catalog. We are very thankful to all of our supporters who contributed to its creation and we hope you enjoy the music as much as we do. The recording will be available via our website, cdbaby.com or Itunes. Or you can pre-order your copy today by sending us an email at [email protected]!!

Chamber Music at Winter's End

Chamber Music in March allows adult chamber music enthusiasts the chance to study a complete work from the cannon of the string quartet repertoire with members of the Walden Chamber Players in a one-day chamber music intensive. Groups will receive 3.5 hours of private coaching, rehearsal and free play time. There will also be a guest lecture and performance by the Walden Chamber Players. This year's repertoire is String Quartet Op. 59, No. 1 by Ludwig Van Beethoven. Visit our website for more details!

Chamber Music takes root on Nantucket!

Walden is thrilled to return to Nantucket this year for an expansion of our Chamber Music ACK residency program. This program provides chamber music education to the year-round community of this beautiful island. Many of the students on the island have limited access to cultural and educational opportunities which happen on the mainland during the winter months. In our first year we were able to bring live in-classroom classical chamber music to every student grades K-5 at Nantucket Elementary School; incorporated over 35 students grades 3-12 in a collaborative performance at the Dreamland Theater for a packed audience; premiered 3 students compositions; and shared chamber music with over 100 families at our Performance and Petting Zoo.If you'd like to watch a short video on the program click here. This year we are excited to expand our reach by adding three concerts at the Dreamland Theater in Downtown Nantucket and including visits to the Nantucket Lighthouse School.
