UNITED STAFF TO ATTEND 29 UM CONFERENCES  


United is recruiting United Methodist students at 29 UM Annual Conferences between May 15 and June 30. These conferences have been identified as being areas where United can meet the growing need for both residential and distance theological education. 
Alumni/ae gatherings have been planned at 12 of these annual conferences and are a great opportunities to get together, reconnect and hear the latest news from United.

DR. TED SAUTER TO SPEAK AT May 23 SPRING COMMENCEMENT
 

Dr. Ted Sauter
Seventy-one United students will graduate on May 23, 2014, at 1:30 p.m. at Ginghamsburg United Methodist Church,6759 S County Road 25A, Tipp City, OH. 


Guest speaker for the service is Dr. Ted Sauter, senior pastor of North Naples United Methodist Church, Naples, FL. 
A native Floridian, Dr. Sauter graduated from United in 1972 and was ordained by the Florida Conference United Methodist Church in 1974. He has been appointed to churches in Daytona Beach, Lakeland, Jacksonville, Tampa and Hollywood before his assignment to North Naples 1992. He enjoys fishing and traveling, especially to out of the way and little known places on the back roads of America.

 

The schedule for the day includes: 

 9:30 a.m. - Eucharist 

11 a.m. - Brunch in the Avenue

1:30 p.m.  - Commencement

2014 CHARLES E. BOOTH PREACHING CONFERENCE 

"DO YOU REALLY BELIEVE WHAT YOU PREACH?"

 

Charles Booth The 2014 Charles E. Booth Preaching Conference is being held on May 20-22 at the Hyatt Regency in Columbus, OH. The conference theme is "Do You Really Believe What You Preach?"

 

Featured speakers include Dr. Charles E. Booth, Dr. Robert Charles Scott, Dr. Raquel St. Clair-Lettsom, Dr. Patrice Turner, Dr. Sir Walter Lee Mack, Jr., and  Dr Kenyatta Gilbert.

"NEW HYMN" COMPETITION WINNER OFFERS REFLECTION FOR PENTECOST SUNDAY  

Music Competition
One of United's 2013 "New Songs and Hymns for Renewal" competition winners, alumnus Rev. Fred Crider '67, has offered a recording of his original hymn lyrics, "Come, Gather to Hear What the Spirit Will Say," as a reflection for Pentecost. Music and lyrics can be found on  United's website.  Fred would love to hear your response, and offers this reflection for all churches on their journeys to Pentecost Sunday.

 
UNITED ANNOUNCES INITIATIVES TO REDUCE STUDENT INDEBTEDNESS  

United is pleased to announce Financially Fit 2 Lead (FF2L), an innovative new initiative that will help United students combat educational indebtedness. The core goals of FF2L are to reduce student loan indebtedness and relieve the financial pressures that can threaten a graduate's ability to successfully function in a ministerial setting. United's students will soon have new opportunities to increase their understanding of the financial issues that impact both personal and vocational well-being. Read the full story online.

 

 

 

UNITED RECRUITING FINANCIAL LITERACY MENTORS!  

 

We are looking for alumni/ae who are proficient in financial literacy and competency to mentor current and future students as part of our new Financially Fit 2 Lead initiative. 

 

The Ambassador Mentor program is designed to connect alumni/ae with each other and also support mentoring relationships with students. Within this community we can match our brightest students with alumni/ae who are able to spare a few moments each month to share financial advice and tips online or in person.

 

To join the community simply visit this Ambassador Mentors link. On the main page you will have the option to register manually or to connect via your Facebook or LinkedIn account making registration and updating of your profile information incredibly easy. Formal training will be offered beginning this fall to assist in financial education.

12th  ANNUAL SUMMER PREACHING RETREAT: THE PROMISE OF NEW TESTAMENT APOCALYPTIC 
 

The 12th Annual Summer Preaching Retreat, The Promise of New Testament Apocalyptic is scheduled for August 12-14 from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on United's campus. 

 

Guest instructor is Dr. David Schnasa Jacobson, Professor of the Practice of Homiletics and Director of the Homiletical Theology Project at Boston University School of Theology, Boston, MA. Prof.  He is a clergy member of the Dakotas Conference of The United Methodist Church and has served churches in Pierre, SD and New Johnsonville, TN. .

HECK LECTURES & ALUMNI/AE REUNIONS OCTOBER 14-15

 


Dr. Randy L. Maddox is the speaker at the 2014 J. Arthur Heck Lectures on Wednesday, Oct. 15. Dr. Maddox will present the theme, "A Wesleyan Theology for Holistic Health and Healing." Click HERE for more information about Dr. Maddox.
 
The Alumni/ae Association will present three awards during the Annual Alumni/ae Banquet held the evening before on Tuesday, Oct. 14:  The Effective Ministry Award, the Distinguished Alumnus/a Award and the Outstanding D.Min. Alumnus/a Award. This year's awards banquet and decade reunion lunches honor the classes of 1954, 1964, 1974, 1984, 1994 and 2004. United Alumnus, Dr. Byoung Sam Kim '98, pastor of Manna Methodist Church in Songnam-Si, Kyungki-Do, Korea visits campus with his family on May 13 to discuss planning for the conference, "A New Awakening: Spirit Led into God's Future!" on May 18-20, 2015.
