3RD ANNUAL  HYMN COMPETITION: "NEW SONGS AND HYMNS FOR RENEWAL" 

 

Music CompetitionUnited is pleased to announce its third annual song and hymn-writing competition, "New Songs and Hymns for Renewal!" Writers and composers are invited to submit songs or hymns with themes of church renewal or personal spiritual renewal. 

Submissions are due by April 25, 2014, and winners will be announced following the adjudication.  Cash prizes will be awarded and winning compositions will be performed at United's Opening Convocation for the 2014-15 academic year.  For more information, please visit Music Competition

Silk Vietnamese Scarves

on Wednesday, March 26, 2014, at noon in United's Thie Fellowship Hall.

 

Items to be auctioned include beautiful Vietnamese silk table runners, Vietnamese silk/cashmere scarves in varying colors, Vietnamese reversible silk stoles in red and white and green and purple, and traditional Sierra Leone shirts.

DR. OTIS MOSS, JR. TO SPEAK AT VISION TO VICTORY

On April 8 and 9, 2014, United Theological Seminary will host Vision to Victory, an annual celebration honoring the life and ministry of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.at around the time of his martyrdom.

 

This year's guest speaker is Dr. Otis Moss, Jr. theologian, pastor and civic leader. Dr. Moss will speak at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, April 8, at Grace United Methodist Church, 1001 Harvard Blvd., Dayton, and on Wednesday, April 9 at 12:30 p.m. at United's campus.

Dr. Moss is one of America's most influential religious leaders and highly sought-after public speakers. He is pastor emeritus of Olivet Institutional Baptist Church in Cleveland, OH. President Barack Obama named him in 2009 to serve on the newly established 25-member White House Advisory Council on Faith-based Neighborhood Partnerships. He also serves on the board of trustees at Morehouse College, where he earned two degrees.  He also holds a Doctor of Ministry degree from United Theological Seminary in 1990. He has pastored several churches and was co-pastor with Dr. King at Ebenezer Baptist Church in Atlanta.

This year's conference features Marva J. Dawn, William C. "Bill" Gaventa, Barbara J. Newman, Jeremy Schipper, and more. Charles Booth The 2014 Charles E. Booth Preaching Conference is being held on May 20-22 at the Hyatt Regency in Columbus, OH. The conference theme is "Do You Really Believe What You Preach?"
