DAYTON BUSINESS JOURNAL NAMES PRESIDENT DEICHMANN EXECUTIVE OF THE YEAR

 

The Dayton Business Journal named President Wendy Deichmann as Executive of the Year presented at the Dayton Business Journal's 2013 Business of the Year awards on Nov. 7 at the Schuster Center in downtown Dayton. For more information, visit United's website.

 

 

MUSIC MINISTRY CERTIFICATE, CONFLICT COURSE TO BEGIN IN JANUARY

 

Floyd and Elaine Flake Certificate in Music Ministry: This is a six-course program geared to enhance one's ability to provide outstanding leadership of music ministry in the 21st century Christian church. The 23-week online program runs from January to July 2014, ending with a one- week residency music intensive/workshop. For more information and to register, visit United's website.
 
Managing Conflict to Maximize Spiritual Maturity: This course will explore the causes of conflict, how to respond to conflict in ways that honor Christ. This fully online class offered by the Pohly Center for Supervision and Leadership Formation is taught in a format that enables participants to engage and complete the weekly course content on their own schedules. The six-week course runs Jan. 27 - March 10, 2014. Cost is $100 and $10 for the CEU certificate for 1.0 CEU. Registration deadline is Jan. 16, 2014. On Monday, Jan. 20 is our annual "Exploring the Faith" Lecture Series with Dr. Felicia Howell LaBoy, United's Assistant Professor of Evangelization in the Heisel Chair and Director of the Center for Urban Ministry. UNITED RECEIVES GRANT FROM LILLY ENDOWMENT

 

United has been awarded a $250,000 grant by Lilly Endowment Inc. as part of the Endowment's Theological School initiative to Address Economic Challenges Facing Future Ministers. The purpose of this initiative is to enable theological schools to examine and strengthen their financial and educational strategies and practices in order to improve the economic well-being of future pastoral leaders.

 

 

PREACHING LENT AND HOLY WEEK WORKSHOP ON FEB. 7 

 

Preaching Lent and Holy Week: Dying and Rising with Christ is a preaching workshop taught by Dr. Richard Eslinger and Dr. Joni Sancken from 8:45 a.m. to 4:20 p.m. on Feb. 7 at United.

3RD ANNUAL  HYMN COMPETITION: "NEW SONGS AND HYMNS FOR RENEWAL" 

 

Music CompetitionUnited is pleased to announce its third annual song and hymn-writing competition, "New Songs and Hymns for Renewal!" Writers and composers are invited to submit songs or hymns with themes of church renewal or personal spiritual renewal. 

Submissions are due by April 25, 2014 and winners will be announced following the adjudication.  Cash prizes will be awarded and winning compositions will be performed at United Opening Convocation for the 2014-15 academic year.

LIGHT THE FIRE! 2014 SET FOR MAY 8-9

 

Light the Fire! 2014: The Fullness of Christ -- A Church for All People will be May 8 and May 9 at Ginghamsburg Church, 6759 S. County Road 25A, Tipp City, OH. Featured speakers include Marva J. Dawn, William "Bill" Gaventa, Barbara J. Newman, Jeremy Schipper and Mike Slaughter. 
 
This year's Light the Fire! conference will equip clergy and laity to be faithful in ministry with people with disabilities. The conference will include theological discussion with plenty of "how to" sessions for creating a church of people of all abilities.
