DAYTON BUSINESS JOURNAL NAMES UNITED, PRESIDENT DEICHMANN AS FINALISTS IN AWARDS COMPETITION

 

The United Theological Seminary and President Wendy Deichmann have been named as finalists in the Dayton Business Journal's 2013 Business of the Year awards. United was named a finalist in the Not-for-Profit category, and President Deichmann in the Executive of the Year category. The annual awards program recognizes the best in business across the Miami Valley and features seven categories that give recognition to: Top executives; nonprofits; manufacturers; minority businesses; young and start-up companies; community supporters and service companies.
 
Finalists will be featured in a special publication on Nov. 8, as well as at the prestigious black-tie gala. Winners of each award, as well as an overall Business of the Year Award, will be announced at the banquet, which will be held on Nov. 7 at the Schuster Center in downtown Dayton.

United's annual Phonathon will be Monday, Nov. 4 through Friday, Nov. 15. Our goal for annual seminary support for this 143rd academic year is $120,000. Preaching Advent/Christmas: The Desert Shall Rejoice on Nov. 11
Preaching Advent/Christmas: The Desert Shall Rejoice is a preaching workshop taught by Dr. Richard and Dr. Elise Eslinger from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Nov. 11 at United. The images and poetics of Isaiah set the tone for this year's observance of the Season of Advent, as well as St. Luke's story of the Nativity and St. Matthew's powerful telling of the flight into Egypt. You are invited to attend It Came Upon a Midnight Clear: United's Annual Christmas ball for all students, staff, faculty, alumni/ae and their guests from 6:30 p.m. to 11:30 p.m. Dec. 13. This year's Christmas Ball will be at the Boonshoft Museum of Discovery, 2600 Deweese Parkway, Dayton, OH. The $15 cost includes museum admission, two Space Theater shows, hors d'ouevres, a sit-down dinner, dessert, drinks, entertainment and a commemorative photo. UNITED CO-SPONSORS DISTANCE LEARNING WEBINAR

United's Distance Learning Department co-sponsored  Distance Learning: Successes and Opportunities, a webinar for distance learning deans and directors from mostly ATS schools, with NCEA Seminary Department. The webinar was from Monday, Oct. 28 to Tuesday, Oct. 29.

 

 

MUSIC MINISTRY CERTIFICATE, CONFLICT COURSE TO BEGIN IN JANUARY

 

Floyd and Elaine Flake Certificate in Music Ministry: This is a six-course program geared to enhance one's ability to provide outstanding leadership of music ministry in the 21st century Christian church. The 23-week online program runs from January to July 2014, ending with a one week residency music intensive/workshop. For more information and to register, visit United's website.
 
Managing Conflict to Maximize Spiritual Maturity: This course will explore the causes of conflict, how to respond to conflict in ways that honor Christ. This fully online class offered by the Pohly Center for Supervision and Leadership Formation is taught in a format that enables participants to engage and complete the weekly course content on their own schedules. The six-week course runs Jan. 27-March 10, 2014. Cost is $100 and $10 for the CEU certificate for 1.0 CEU. Registration deadline is Jan. 16, 2014. United announces a new M.Div. concentration in Global Charismatic studies. Charismatic Christianity is the fastest-growing expression of faith throughout the world, and includes not only Pentecostal, Neo-Pentecostal and non-denominational, but also the influence these movements have had on Roman Catholicism and mainline Protestantism. The courses for this concentration will include Holiness, Pentecostal and Charismatic Renewal Movements, Charismatic Ministry and Practice, Charismatic Renewal Theology and more.
