Sun, Feb 24 at 5:15 pm

Tao Members are invited to join Rabbi Phil for the reading of the Megillah in honor of Purim on Sunday, February 24th at 5 pm at the home of Rabbi Marc & Pauling Labowitz.

This program is "for Members only".

TAO People of Distinction 2013
"The Event to Remember"

On Sunday TAO hosted its annual GALA, People of Distinction 2013 at the Westin Cypress Creek Hotel.  For the 3rd year, we have chosen to honor members of our community who set an example for a life of service, joy, commitment, tzedakah, community and faith.  This year's honorees were Kate GeMeiner, Maria Daszkal and Fleur and Bob Heaton - each of them a vital thread in the tapestry that is Temple Adath Or.

I know Rabbi Shoni had great intention in choosing the name Temple Adath Or when she birthed this community over 25 years ago.  It literally means, people or community of light. And whether the name attracted the people, or the people lived up to the name... we are, indeed, a community of light.  And yesterday we honored four of our luminaries.

The day focused on the music, the food, the humor and the light that emanates from our holy group.  We also paid tribute to a time-honored Jewish tradition... shopping!  Our fabulous vendors coordinated by Pam Kelner had wonderful gifts that included jewelry, organic dog treats, mosaics, fine art, essential oils, yoga clothes and more.

It was my privilege and delight once again to put together this year's video tribute.  Answers to questions like: "What matters to you... What is the soul... And What the world needs is"... provided deep insight into the spirit and wisdom of our honorees.  The music for the video came from Rabbi Marc's CDs and the room rocked with rhythm and Jews.  And who could forget Bob & Fleur's chipmunk pictures!?  Or the fantastic music of the Chai Notes, led by our very own Dan Cousins?

From start to finish, the event flowed like a fine merlot.  Our Board of Directors - Sandy King, Bob Heaton, Pam Kelner, Anne Goldberg and Robert Zveibil - and volunteers made it easy. Thank you's to Sue Gotlin, Beth Linzner and Jacci King for handling registration and charges.  Karen Rosenfeld, Kathy Leonard, Trudi DeGrazia and prez Sandy King did a great job selling raffle tickets and calls and invitations. And Carole Constad, Kate GeMeiner, Eileen Grove, Keith Kander, Pam Kelner, Sue Reisman, Rochelle Tischler and Robert Zveibil helped with phone calls, envelope stuffing and anything else we needed.  Thanks to Jenae Rubin for her work on the marketing and journal!  Many Thanks as well to Rabbis Shoni & Phil for their direction and support, and of course to our own Rabbi Marc for leading us on this journey to such a successful outcome on Sunday.  Thank you, thank you!

This year we took time to say a special thank you to our administrative staff, Dee Sacks and Renee Greene.  We really don't tell them enough that they are treasured beyond words for their commitment, passion and expertise.  Dee selflessly volunteers every day and is critical to the day to day operation of TAO.  And, if Rabbi Marc is the heart and wisdom of TAO, Renee Greene is our rudder, carefully and mindfully steering us clear of the rocks and potential hazards and into calm, blue seas.  She has elevated TAO by virtue of her experience, professionalism, humor, compassion and common sense. Both of you enrich our community.  Thank you for all you do.

It has been eight years since I joined TAO and I am not the same woman in so many ways.  I am so much better, so much more than I ever thought I could be because the safety of this sacred community has allowed me to blossom in ways I could only imagine before.  There is joy, connection and meaning in the corners of my being, where there never was before.  Community did that.  Our community.  Temple Adath Or - our Community of Light.  May we continue to shine as we did yesterday, touching the lives and hearts of all who desire it.

With great love,

Anne Goldberg

PS - Many Thanks to our past prez Anne Goldberg who lovingly mc'ed our POD 2013, handled all aspects of our beautiful video, helped beautify our room with flower arrangements and did whatever asked.  We appreciate your selfless giving and loving.

Many Thanks

Many Thanks to everyone who played  a part in making TAO People of Distinction 2013 a huge success.  It was a wonderful event due to so many of you and your efforts.

Why We Sing at TAO

A newcomer to our services might wonder why there is so much music and singing and chanting.  We learn in Kabbalah that everything has an energetic footprint.  And the energy of music (and all sounds) has been proven to affect the way water molecules organize themselves.  The work of Japanese scientist, Masuro Emoto, has shown that molecules rearrange themselves differently depending upon the type of music that is played.  Hard-core, screaming rock 'n roll caused water crystals to become disorganized and ugly;  in the presence of Mozart, however, the crystals presented as perfectly formed, crisply defined, beautiful objects, similar to snowflakes. Since humans are 70% water, the effect of music on our physical bodies is undeniable.

When Rabbi Marc and the TAO Orchestra lead us in musical prayer or a Niggun (a melody repeated over and over) the effects are not limited to our physical bodies.  The words, rhythm and cadence all have an effect on our
spiritual bodies too.   When the refrain is repeated over and over and over (and you are open to it), it can take over your mind, pushing away the ego with its fear and negativity.  It becomes a form of meditation.

Dr. Emoto also showed how different words carry their own very high vibrational patterns and, when combined with the music, can serve as a vehicle for our soul to eclipse our ego.  The music awakens us to the present moment and that moment is transformed as we glow from within with the joy of Divine Freedom emanating from us.  And, if you are open to it, you might just emerge transformed in some new, sweet way.

So the next time you're at services, or any TAO event, and are treated to our music, give yourself permission to be transported. to allow the music to fill your mind and flow through and pour out of you so that you are fully immersed in the moment and the music - and the rest of the world (and its challenges) blissfully dissolve.

After all, we are Temple Adath Or - a Community of Light.  Please come shine with us.

In its essence, Renewal helps us to access the God within.

TAO's Adopted Family

Through our support of the Touch A Heart Foundation, TAO has adopted a family whom we will try to offer visits and support during the coming year.

Our "adopted" family consists of a 63 year old grandma with custody of two grandsons, a 10 and 11 year old. Grandma has MS, and on a good day uses a cane. More often she requires a walker or wheelchair. Her greatest fear is losing her home which is the only home the boys have ever known and handicap accessible for her. Their only income at this time is Social Security.

As the holidays draw near, if you would like to make a donation towards food or holiday gifts for our adopted family, please contact the TAO office at 954-888-1408.

We plan to visit our family throughout the holidays and throughout the year. If you are interested in being a part of one of these visits, please let Renee know at 954-888-1408 or by email at [email protected] This is a wonderful mitzvah project and we hope each of you can participate in this mitzvah in some small or large way.

Galia, Ocean & Kole  Funds

In the spirit of Tzedakah, Paulina and Rabbi Marc set up two funds at TAO - a Galia fund and an Ocean fund. A portion of these funds is used to send toys and other needed items to Jewish and non-Jewish organizations that serve children, including Jafco.

When you share your sweetness to celebrate Galia's birthday (December 6) and Ocean's birthday (June 28) and other occasions, please donate to TAO instead of generously offering toys, clothing and other gifts. In this way, children will benefit from your sweet generosity.

Paulina and Rabbi Marc will be informed that you gifted their children and performed an act of Tzedakah in their honor.

Both Paulina and Rabbi Marc appreciate the health, toys and love their children have and want to give others the opportunity to share as well. To donate, Donate to Galia or Ocean fund for this tax deductible gift.
