Smart Portion Size "Cheat Sheet"

Symbols Help Serve Right Food Portion Size

Help your athletes get through the holidays with advice about determining the proper 'serving size' for each food group. One of our most popular blog posts in October described how objects can be used to represent proper serving sizes.  A 'portion' is the amount of food you choose to eat for meals or snacks (like a plate of pasta or handful of raisins). In comparison a 'serving' is the amount of food that experts recommend you eat (like 1 cup of milk or 1 ounce of bread).   Encourage your athletes to think about familiar objects for serving size.
