Regional video shown in China
A video promoting the 1000 Islands, the Rideau Canal and the Leeds Grenville region has been well received by Chinese audiences. Roger Haley, a local mayor with the Township of Front of Yonge, took a Mandarin translation of the video developed by the United Counties of Leeds and Grenville Economic Development office on a November trip to China.

The video was showcased at the International Mayors' Forum on Tourism in Zhengzhou and to education officials in the City of Wuzhou. Also on the mission was Frank Kinsella, mayor of Leeds and the Thousand Islands until December 1.

The two mayors visited five cities in 10 days promoting this region as a tourist destination and a prime place for international students. Mayor Haley signed a friendship agreement with the City of Cenxi. Mr. Kinsella signed an agreement with the City of Wuzhou.

Special presentation to winner
Longtime Maitland resident Richard Dumbrille was honoured Monday at the Augusta Township Council meeting for his community volunteerism award.

The Bill Thake Memorial Award for Economic Development Leadership was presented at the United Counties of Leeds and Grenville Economic Development Summit on November 21. Mr. Dumbrille won the award but was away at his son's wedding in Vancouver at the time.

Augusta Township Mayor Doug Malanka and outgoing Reeve Mel Campbell both praised Mr. Dumbrille for his decades of work in preserving historic buildings in Maitland. He has restored 24 buildings and his efforts have led to the village being named one of the most preserved places in Ontario. Mr. Dumbrille's work has provided employment and much-needed housing in the township. He received the Order of Canada in 1976.
