The Philosophy of Hebrew Scripture
|
Scholar and political theorist Yoram Hazony's new book The Philosophy of Hebrew Scripture is a must-read for any creative Zionist.
He makes a powerful case for reading the Hebrew bible as a book of reason, thus offering the Jewish nation a powerful philosophic and Jewish base for reviving a country and society based on reason, creativity, individualism, and liberty.

Downtrodden
They say "you're strong" - don't believe them! "You're not downtrodden" - a means to condemn A nation of priests, and for that you feel less It's the people of Israel they'll dispossess
You build steel towers with a curling backbone A nation of tanks but cowering from a stone You're weak because you're afraid of your might Ashamed, sickly - why else all the fright?
Rise up, O' Israel, and have faith in your souls Be loyal to truth lest you be captive to polls Your justice is misplaced, your peace - rotten Remember, oh yes! it's you who're downtrodden

I admit, starting a new Zionist organization is both extremely exciting and extremely daunting. I'm encouraged by the fact that we have so many wonderful programs going on and a great core team that believes in what we are doing. If you have not received our first e-mail announcing CZC, then please check out our developing website: www.creativezionistcoalition.org.
We are supremely looking forward to our historic Purim ball at Hotel Shangri-La, in which we'll honor Pamela Geller and Robert Spencer, two courageous defenders of Israel.
On Sunday, Jan. 27, we're holding with the World Zionist Organization a rally in support of Jewish rights - in Hollywood. Also noteworthy is our project to help deploy volunteers to Israel from L.A. in times of war and crisis.
In our special section, "zThoughts," we present a forum for unique ideas about Israel, Jewish life, and Jewish identity. We're always on the lookout for great writing, so let us know if you'd like to contribute.
Stay tuned as we unveil more, and please help out the new kidz on the block....To inspire you, here's an oldie but goodie (at least if you were a child of the 80s). You bet we'll be Hangin' Tough!

BACKGROUND
As the forces of Nazi Germany retreated on January 27, 1945, the Red Army captured the infamous death camp of Auschwitz. The United Nations chose to mark that day as the International Day for Commemoration of the Holocaust; the State of Israel later declared it the National Day for Countering Antisemitism.
In this past year, we have seen a steady rise in Antisemitic statements and actions around the world. Israel is continually threatened by hate-driven violence; Neo-Nazi political parties have gained power in Greece and Hungary; the institutions of circumcision and kashrut have come under attack in Germany, Poland and even the United States; and Jews in Europe are increasingly becoming target of attack. Don't stand idly by!

Volunteers in Israel in any future Emergency Situation!
Emergency Volunteers Project (EVP) in Israel to open Los Angeles chapter to mobilize and train Angelenos to fly to Israel in emergency situations
Los Angeles, CA - EVP (Emergency Volunteers Project), a non-profit dedicated to training, mobilizing and deploying American volunteers to assist Israel in times of crisis, war and conflict plans to set up a volunteers' training center in Los Angeles. Led by a new local Zionist organization, Creative Zionist Coalition and supported by several community organizations, the initiative plans to bring Israeli EVP personnel to Los Angeles in February to both recruit and train Jewish and non-Jewish firefighters and medical volunteers for deployment in any future emergency situation.
Adi Zahavi, CEO of EVP, visited Los Angeles in December 2012 to meet with local community leaders and senior American firefighters and secured the training facilities necessary to ensure the success of this endeavor.
Volunteers of all kinds-community volunteers, active paramedics, EMTs, firefighters, and rescue personnel-will be sorely needed in Israel whenever a crisis should erupt. With the call-up of Israeli army reserves, many positions in hospitals, schools and municipalities will be left abandoned. In particular, Israel badly lacks many professionally trained firefighters.

Stop the Commodification of Judaism, Israel, and the Jewish People!
By Orit Arfa
| | |
It's no secret that some Jewish organizations pay their staff very generous salaries that enable them to live a more than comfortable life in America, along with benefits such as trips to Israel, dinners and parties at prestigious restaurants and venues, and the opportunity to hobnob with celebrities and public officials who love Israel and the Jews.
Jewish professionals today are able to create good lives for themselves in the US, sending their children to the best schools and colleges, buying a two-story home with a nice garage-all the while feeling great about the good they are doing in the world. And who can blame them?
These organizations sell wonderful products which ignite Jewish passions and Zionist sentiments of Jews all over the world: love for the Jewish people, Jewish tradition and, of course, the state of Israel. They entice donors and constituencies with promises to engage in good deeds that befit Jewish tradition, whether they are helping the needy, sending much-needed money and supplies to Israel, writing letters to politicians in support of Israel, or organizing social gatherings where Jews can network and, God-willing, find a mate, so that one day they can raise upstanding members of the Jewish community in America, and so on, forever.
However, from my observations, it seems that maintaining Jewish comfort and stature in America has become to many Jewish leaders a goal even more worthy than the causes they promote: meaningful and true safety of the Jewish people wherever they are and particularly in Israel.
What happens if Jews are asked to put their comfortable Jewish lifestyles on the line? What if standing up for the Jewish people involves taking a controversial position with regards to Israel's defense that could offend a potential financier or "network" opportunity? What would be the higher value: Jewish principle and long-term Jewish safety, or present-day comfort and prestige?

Actively "Re-Convert" Palestinian Anusim By Jessica Felber, CZC Co-founder
| |
 | | Are Some Palestinian Arabs Actually Jewish? |
The "two state solution" (a misnomer) calls for dividing the land of Israel into two states for two "people," Israel and Palestine, based on the fear that absorbing the Arab population of Judea and Samaria (the West Bank) would render Jews outnumbered in their own country. Merely living as a Jewish majority should not be the only raison d'être for the existence of a Jewish state in the land of Israel. The Jewish people must remember why they deserve and desire the land of Israel in the first place: it is rightfully theirs. The Jewish people were the last, official owners of the land of Israel (having been exiled from it 2,000 years ago) and Jews reconquered it in multiple wars of self-defense. The land of Israel belongs to the Jewish people, and it is the place where they can flower and flourish to their fullest potential as a people, living as a "light unto the nations" in a region overrun by darkness. We must not begin with the premise that Jews must exist as the majority population, and then fit borders to suit that premise. Rather, Israel must begin with the premise that Jews desire and deserve to settle the entire land of Israel and do what they do best: make their desert bloom. Assuming the doomsday demographic predictions are even accurate (which several studies show they are not), what would happen if, all of a sudden, we found out that a good number of Palestinian Arabs are, in fact, racially Jewish? And that if they would be formally converted to Judaism, they would tip the scales of demography in favor of a Jewish majority? Would they be rejected by mainstream Jews because of their Arab roots? Would they be embraced? Would Jews who believe in the "two-state solution" suddenly give up the impractical and unethical vision of splitting the land of Israel to create "Israel" and "Palestine"? These questions should not be dismissed as theoretical because, in fact, evidence suggests that many Palestinian Arabs are actually racially and, in some instances, culturally Jews. READ MORE. |

What does the nomination of Chuck Hagel for Secretary of Defense say about American-Israel relations?
| | |
Journalist Lara Berman has interviewed political commentator and Los Angeles litigator Steve Goldberg on the nomination of Charles "Chuck" Hagel for Secretary of Defense by President Obama. Steve Goldberg is National Vice Chair of the Zionist Organization of America (ZOA) and serves on the Executive Board of the World Likud and World Zionist Organization (WZO). He warns that Obama's pro-Israel mask has now been lifted with the appointment of a former Senator with a voting record hostile to Israel. His appointment marks a turning point in Israel-US relations.

Also agree Hagel is dangerous to both US and Israeli security? To take action, write to your Senators.
