The employment picture in Leavenworth County continues to improve.  813 more Leavenworth County residents had jobs this September compared to last year.  The unemployment rate dipped to 6.0% in September down from 7.9% in September 2011.  People continue to want to live in Leavenworth County as population figures for the county showed an increase of 949 residents over the past year boosting the county's population to 77,176.  

 

Business recruitment activity seems to be heating up as well.  So far this year LCDC has developed 65 business leads and submitted property or proposals for 28 of those leads.  Last year at this time LCDC recorded 52 leads and 24 proposals.  Through September 2010 those figures were 46 and 21.

LCDC's Annual Golf Tournament at Falcon Lakes in September was a wonderful day full of great networking and great golf! Fun was had by all, and several participants received great raffle prizes, including an overnight at Great Wolf Lodge and tickets to a Chiefs game. In another effort to become green, they have opened a recycling site on South 2nd street were the public is able to dump and purchase certain materials, such as rock and dirt. Starting in late fall or early spring, they will begin accepting used shingles for recycling as well. This will not only save oil, it will reduce the amount of material placed in landfills.
