Spokane UU Church Sets New ANSWER Record!!
We welcome 26 New Sponsors to the ANSWER Family!
Spokane Unitarian-Universalist Church proved its overlordship of the "Inland Empire" by embracing the ANSWER Program and sponsoring 26 children. Ladened with 22 children waiting to be sponsored, Earle had to request more student candidates from Nepal the following week to fulfill requests! This surpasses the two previous highs of 16 children at one time. Rev. Todd Eklof and his wife Peggy and teen daughter Cassidy moved from Louisville, KY two years ago to become the settled minister to a congregation of 400, the largest UU Church in the Eastern half of the state. This was Earle's first visit to Spokane UUC, and he is looking forward to returning next year after they have all received initial letters from their students!
Earle gave the Sunday sermons and a slide presentation at a potluck dinner the following Monday night. Much of the enthusiastic response was due to Rev. Todd Eklof's efforts, a long time sponsor of an ANSWER child. Todd warmed hearts by proudly reading their recent letter from Manish who is now 14 y.o. Manish and Todd share a love for animals. When Todd had confessed sadness over the aging of his beloved dog, Manish consoled his minister-sponsor by reminding him in his letter, "....death is a natural process!"

Stanford U. Business Students Donate $20,500 to ANSWER!
by Rachel Power
Every year, MBA students at Stanford Graduate School of Business select a few nonprofits to be the beneficiaries of their annual charitable fundraising activities. This year, ANSWER was chosen alongside the Cambodian Children's Fund, the Family & Children's Association, and the Navy SEAL Foundation. ANSWER stood out over the 20+ other nominated organization because of the length and depth of its involvement in Nepal and because it does a great job ensuring funds go directly to serving children.
Over the past year, Stanford GSB held a variety of small fundraising events and two larger events, the White Party and Challenge for Charity. The White Party is a large charity auction with items donated by students, companies, and other individuals in Silicon Valley. Challenge for Charity is a weekend during which nine business schools on the west coast come together on Stanford's campus to compete in sporting events and to volunteer and raise money.
This year, Stanford GSB was able to raise $20,500 specifically for ANSWER. Having spent four weeks in Nepal last summer, I am tremendously excited about the impact this money can have for ANSWER's children, and I cannot imagine a better stewards than Earle and his team.

I am personally very grateful to my classmates at Stanford GSB for their support for ANSWER as I have been participating in sponsoring an ANSWER student since 2001 and have sponsored a second student since 2010. It has meant a lot to me to watch my first student grow up to be the incredible young woman that she is today. She has been a true inspiration to me as I have grown up alongside her. ANSWER's presence in my life has been a gift, and I am so pleased to see this gift come back to ANSWER through the generosity of the Stanford community.

LOW ADMINISTRATIVE COST
Now sponsoring TWO Students, ANSWER Sponsor Alice Atkinson says, "We feel that there is a significant return from our relatively small investment of $300 a year. Too many charities spend too much of the donations on administrators, ANSWER is carefully tailored to the needs of Nepal and to the children." Sponsor donations go to EDUCATION. The Nepali Staff is paid for through the annual Gala in Grand Rapids, Mi. and the Executive Director, Earle Canfield, is purely volunteer.
