CHAMBER OPPORTUNITIES

WELCOME BAGS are back! - Bring your coupons/items

The Chamber is bringing back Welcome Bags for residents moving into Dripping Springs!  The bags will be cloth with "Dripping Springs - Just West of Weird" or "Dripping Springs - It All Starts Here"  printed on them. They will be distributed through our local Title Companies and the School District.  This is an excellent opportunity to get new customers to visit your store or try your service!

We will be preparing 100 bags.  We suggest that whatever you choose to include, that it be of some value - not just a brochure.  People are more apt to try your company if they have something of value to redeem or remember.

If you have a coupon or small item you would like to include in the bag, please bring 100 of each to the Chamber by Friday, June 22nd.

ATTENTION NON-PROFITS

Humana Communities Benefit-Austin Invites Nonprofits to Apply for $100,000 Grant

With the United States economy continuing to work its way back from decline, nonprofit organizations across the country, including those in Central Texas, continue to feel the sting of budget cuts and decreased funding. In fact, a recent study conducted by the Nonprofit Research Collaborative found that 65 percent of charities reported an increased demand for their services in 2011 while just 41 percent saw increased fundraising results.

To alleviate funding needs, charities in the Austin area are now invited to apply for the $100,000 Humana Communities Benefit charitable grant in Austin, sponsored by health benefits provider Humana Inc. (NYSE: HUM).  Entering its second year in Austin, the Humana Communities Benefit program awards a one-time, $100,000 grant annually to a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization in Central Texas focused on improving health experiences or building healthy communities.

Applications from eligible nonprofit organizations in Bastrop, Caldwell, Hays, Travis or Williamson County are being accepted now through July 27. Organizations will be considered in the operational areas of childhood health and education, health literacy and services or intergenerational health. Following a selection process by a panel of local judges, the 2012 grant winner will be announced at a celebratory event on Oct. 25.

More information on the application and the grant are available at www.Humana.com/HCB. Questions can also be directed to Humana by e-mail to HCBAustin@Humana.com.

Hays County

The Hays County Transportation Plan team wants to take the opportunity to bring you up-to-date on where we are with the process of developing the County Transportation Plan.

Since the first public workshop in December, the project team, the Citizens Advisory Group, and the Technical Advisory Group have been busy reviewing and processing additional technical data (such as crash data) and public comments. We are very excited to have received so much and such thoughtful input. In addition, we have been working with the Citizens Advisory Group and Technical Advisory Group to outline the framework under which we will begin to develop specific recommendations for the Plan. This did take us a little bit more time than planned and we find ourselves having to make a choice between taking the time to be thoughtful and deliberate in our thinking and with our resources or rushing to get done. Of course we have chosen to be thoughtful and deliberate in our thinking and efficient with our resources so we are going to take a bit more time to prepare for the next public workshop. This means that instead of hearing from us before the end of May or beginning of June you are going to see an announcement for a late June or early July workshop. We hope you understand and that after you see what we are working on you will appreciate this extra time we are taking.

We will send you a notice once the public meeting date is set and please feel free to contact us with any questions or concerns.

Please forward this information to members of your community that you think may be interested in the process, have concerns, or ideas that will help meet the future transportation, accessibility, and safety needs of Hays County as it continues to grow. To sign up to receive email updates directly or to submit questions or comments, please contact us at: haystransportationplan@gmail.com or contact Cathy Howell at 512-533-9100, ext. 10.

Thank you again for your involvement,

Hays County Transportation Plan Team
