MEMBER NEWS

JUST NEXT DOOR - New Member

Just Next Door was founded in 2012 in order to create a local, social community referral system. With the internet becoming more prominent in the everyday lives of most consumers, our focus is to grab the attention of those local communities.

Through volume based marketing trends, both social and local, JND creates greater awareness for companies who otherwise get overlooked. By creating group based brand awareness, small businesses are able to compete against larger companies at the most local level.

For Chamber members, a 50% discount is available. For more information, please visit our website at www.jndaustin.com or email info@jndaustin.com.

PERK UP DRIPPING SPRINGS - FUTURE MEMBER

Check out this opportunity to assist Ronda Silliman in opening up a new business in Dripping Springs in the Fall of 2012! http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1390371202/perk-up-dripping-springs?ref=email

YMCA

Nearly 300 YMCA volunteer and staff campaigners helped raise more than $1 million during the 10-week campaign ($1,009,764 to be exact) by focusing on fundamentals - person-to-person testimonials to the impact of YMCA programs and services on people's lives.

"The YMCA of Austin touches nearly 100,000 members of our community, so our best strategy was to leverage our numbers in helping to tell our story," said James P. Finck, YMCA of Austin President and CEO. "There was nothing glamorous about it, just a lot of hard work by a group of dedicated, caring people."

Contributions were also made online through the YMCA of Austin website, www.AustinYMCA.org, with nearly 700 gifts received totaling more than $80,000.

Despite the effort, YMCA leaders know that the need in the community will far exceed supply. For example, in 2011, the YMCA of Austin provided more than $2.1 million in financial assistance, enabling individuals and families to take part in Y programs and services.

Contributors to POY help the YMCA provide a wide range of programs and activities for families who cannot afford the cost. Programs supported by POY funds include:

  • Swimming lessons
  • Afterschool Child Care
  • Summer Day Camp
  • Youth Sports
  • Health and fitness programs for youths and adults
  • YMCA memberships

The impact also extends far beyond the YMCA as well, enabling the Y to collaborate with many other community organizations by providing facilities, programs and services at no cost or reduced cost.  Contributions to the YMCA of Austin Partner of Youth fund are accepted year-round. Persons interested in contributing campaign can visit www.austinymca.org and click on "Giving" or call YMCA Vice President of Development Jim Pacey at 322-9622 x134.
