MEMBER NEWS
Helping Hands & Texas Hill Country Olive Co. need your help. The Olive Co. is hosting an Easter Egg Hunt on Sunday, April 8th that will benefit the Helping Hands Food Pantry. No child will be turned away from hunting Easter Eggs and all proceeds from this event will go to Helping Hands. Help is needed in the form on donations of candy and plastic eggs. If you can make a donation, please contact Sean at 512-607-6512.
Core Health Care - Deadline for Donation is Tomorrow - April 3rd!
CORE Health Care is a rehabilitationcenter that provides post-acute rehabilitation and long-term care for adults with brain injuries, psychiatric disorders and other special needs. Along with a team of other therapists, we help these clients to reach their goals of improving their independence. We would like to thank-you for our continuing relationship throughout the past year, it has allowed us to provide our clients with not only strength and endurance training but also the knowledge that they can re-enter the community.
Each summer CORE Health Care sends a group on a fun filled weekend of camp (please visit their website at www.campforall.org). This event includes an exciting three days and two nights of everything from horseback riding and dancing to rock wall climbing and zip lining. When I went last year, I saw the difference this one weekend made, giving them a sense of accomplishment when they climbed a wall or making lasting/supporting connections with people with similar conditions.
At this time, we may be forced to turn away a large percentage of our clients due to lack of funds. It costs $248 to pay for each person for an entire weekend. This includes everything from transportation, meals, attendant services, and days full of camp activities. Our goal is to raise $10,000. Any amount that you are willing to donate is greatly appreciated.
Our non for profit organization, CORE Health Foundation, has a mission of removing barriers for individuals with disabilities. Sending individuals to camp so that they can participate in a life-changing experience, meets this mission. We are in dire need of contributions so that all will have a chance to join. If your business is interested in donating to this event, these funds would be used for the sole purpose of the benefit of our clients and are tax deductible.
Donations can be made by check to the CORE health foundation with "camp" written in the memo line. It can be mailed to the above address. Our Tax ID: 20-4395526
If you have any questions about CORE Health Foundation, please visit: www.corehealthfoundation.org. If you would like to receive information about the camp, please contact Alicia Storrier via email at astorrier@corehealth.com.
Wellspring Medical Clinic
We are still seeing cases of influenza-"the flu"-- in the clinic, and I wanted to reach out to everyone to let them know that WellSpring Family Medicine still has flu vaccine.
In the past week, we cared for more patients who were confirmed to have the flu. I expect them all to recover, however the number of missed days from work or school and the potential exposure to other vulnerable individuals remains a concern. If you believe that you have developed the illness, please remain at home and practice "social distancing" to avoid exposing others needlessly. For anyone who was undecided earlier or perhaps wasn't able to get one, I encourage you to stop by and get this protective treatment.
Flu can occur year round, but it tends to cluster in the winter months, typically November to March. The milder winter seems to have shifted its peak and we may see a higher number cases of the flu later than usual.
If you would like to get the flu shot, come by. You don't need an appointment and since this is a preventative service, we expect your health plan to pay 100% on the claim. However, if it does not, we believe that this is an important tool to help our bodies mount a quicker immune response so you will not owe anything if your health plan does not cover this expense.
We want you to be healthy. We want to be your partner in achieving the best health possible. We look forward to seeing you.
Canyon Grill Icehouse is pleased to announce that we are now available for private parties on Sundays. We offer a wide variety of foods outside of our standard menu, and can work with you to fit almost any budget. All we ask for is a minimum of one week to book and plan for your event. Please think of us for your next event. We look forward to sharing your special event with you! For questions or reservations please call us at 512-858-7100. Thank you for your business!

CITY OF DRIPPING SPRINGS
It's official! Harrison Ranch Park has a new name...Dripping Springs Ranch Park.
After several focus meetings with the community and advice from the Park's economic analyst, the City of Dripping Springs Council Members and Park Commissioners enacted the name change at their regular meetings in January and February.
Dripping Springs Ranch Park Commission Chair June Baumoel said, "Through feedback we received we determined the park name should include 'Dripping Springs' as it is such a desirable location and a name that is easy to market."
New marketing and public relations strategies and branding efforts are currently underway and should be completed within the next several months. The development of a new logo, web site, signage, and e-marketing campaigns will follow with the name change.
According to Mayor Todd Purcell, "Our main goal was that we wanted Dripping Springs Ranch Park to be a reflection of why Dripping Springs is such a great place to live, work, and play. Giving the park its own identity will allow us to market the Park for a variety of entertainment. Dripping Springs is poised and ready for a first-class event center and family park that will provide a highly desired gathering locale for its citizens and its surrounding neighbors." The economic analysis prepared for the Park in November 2011 shows the benefits of the Park to the City's sales tax base through a variety of events including trade shows, larger festivals and music opportunities while also serving the equine and agricultural community.
Along with new branding, additional leadership will soon be recruited for Dripping Springs Ranch Park and its committees. Specific information, including responsibilities and vacancy of positions will be announced in the coming months.
Some of the upcoming events scheduled for the Dripping Springs Ranch Park Arena include Dripping Springs 4-H Horse Project, Texas Hill Country Barrel Racers Association, D-Bar-S Roping Series, Dripping Springs Ranch Park Buckle and Saddle Series and Dripping Springs Ag Boosters Rodeo. Also, coming in June will be the beloved Camp Lasso, an 11-week day camp for kids age 6 to 13 years old.
For more information on activities or events at Dripping Springs Ranch Park, please see the City of Dripping Springs website at www.cityofdrippingsprings.com . |
BETTER BUSINESS BUREAU
According to the American Camp Association, more than 12,000 day and resident camps exist in the U.S., and more than 11 million children and adults attend camp each year. When it comes time to choose that perfect camp for your child, how do you choose? Better Business Bureau advises taking the time to look beyond brochures and website pictures before making a decision.
Over the past three years, BBB has received more than 350 complaints against various camps nationwide. Common disputes allege dissatisfaction with camp activities or staff, mistakes in the billing cycle and refund issues.
BBB advises parents to begin their search early and look for a camp centered on their child's interests and age. In addition to checking www.bbb.org to see a camp's BBB Business Review or to find a BBB Accredited camp, BBB offers the following tips for parents searching for the right camp:
ˇ Get references. Ask parents of other campers about their child's experience and why they recommend one camp over another. Of note, there is no government oversight of camps, so it's especially important to look for facilities that are certified by the American Camp Association, which requires camps to meet up to 300 nationally recognized standards.
ˇ Visit the camp in person. Check all living, eating and recreational facilities. Be sure to ask about safety procedures and how rules are enforced.
ˇ Assess the quality and commitment of the staff. Find out the camp director's background, the criteria used for hiring staff and whether certification in CPR and First Aid is required. It is also important to know the ratio of staff to campers. Parents sending children to specialty camps should inquire about the staff's level of expertise in the specific area.
ˇ Know the fees and payment policies. What is the total cost of tuition? Is your money refundable should the camp be canceled? Are there extra charges for any activities? Are meals and transportation included? Make sure all these details are included in your contract.
ˇ Ask about medical care and insurance. Check out the medical facilities to be sure they are adequate. Find out if a nurse or doctor is onsite. Inquire about the procedures for transporting injured or sick children to nearby medical facilities and under what circumstances you will be notified of any problems.
ˇ Consider a backup plan. In case the camp you choose gets canceled for unexpected reasons, be sure to have another camp or two in mind. It is ideal to also visit and research those backup camps in advance so that you can be well-informed in the event of a last-minute decision.
To check the reliability of a company and find trustworthy businesses, visit bbb.org. |
