DS Council of PTAs Announces 2011-12 District Reflections Award Recipients

The Dripping Springs ISD Council of PTAs would like to congratulate all of the Dripping Springs students who participated in the 2011-12 Reflections Program. The PTA Reflections Program is an arts recognition and achievement program that encourages children to create original works of art for fun. Local students from Dripping Springs Elementary, Rooster Springs Elementary, Walnut Springs Elementary and DS Middle School submitted creative entries in five categories: Visual Arts, Literature, Musical Composition, Photography, and Dance Choreography. This year's theme for entries was "Diversity Means..."

On January 10th after much deliberation, the Council Level panel of judges selected 10 local student entries to move forward to the Texas PTA, for judging at the State Level. Entries were judged on artistic merit, creativity, mastery of the medium, and interpretation of the theme. The council judging process was completed by artists and professionals from Dripping Springs. Volunteer judges were Jim Speir of Wesley Gallery (Chamber Member), Shirley Sorrell of Wildflower School of Music & Fine Arts, Pun Nio of Nio Graphics, Inc (Chamber Member) and Lillie Eick, retired school teacher.

For more than 40 years PTA's Reflections Program has enhanced quality arts education for students in pre-K through grade 12. Each year the program provides opportunities for students to express themselves creatively and to receive positive recognition for original works of art inspired by a pre-selected theme, while increasing community awareness on the importance of the arts in education.

Congratulations to the Dripping Springs students who took time to participate in the PTA Reflection Program and to the parents and teachers that supported their efforts. Also congratulations to the local PTA Boards and Reflections Chairs, including Amy Embrey RSE, Alisia Phillips WSE, Lori Vaughn DSMS, and Rebecca Wolter DSE.

Good luck to those Dripping Springs students moving on to the State Level. The Texas PTA will advance a total of 24 entries to the National level. State results will be posted on the Texas PTA website (txpta.org) on March 1st, 2012.
