Chamber News & Events
The Dripping Springs Chamber of Commerce & Visitors Center has entered into an agreement with the City of Dripping Springs to lease Deer Hall (the building next to City Hall) to house both the Chamber office and expanded Visitors Center. We will be taking bids to renovate the space and anticipate moving toward the end of February.
In addition, the Board will be searching for an Executive Director for the Visitors Center. The new Director will work to promote Dripping Springs as a tourist destination and will work in conjunction with Sherrie Parks, the Chamber Executive Director.
The Chamber Board looks forward to being in the new location, working to facilitate increased tourism, bringing new businesses to the Dripping Springs area and being a stronger advocate for Chamber Members.

CITY OF DRIPPING SPRINGS
Dripping Springs Selected as Demonstration Site for Sustainable Places Project
The City of Dripping Springs is one of five cities in the region selected as a demonstration site for sustainable planning. The Sustainable Places Project, a consortium of local governments and agencies serving Central Texas, picked Dripping Springs, along with Austin, Elgin, Hutto, and Lockhart, to demonstrate the benefits of integrating housing and mobility options with economic opportunities in high growth areas.
Over the next two years the demonstration sites will develop plans based on community goals with assistance from planning consultants and a new planning analytics tool, all part of a grant from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), managed by the Capital Area Council of Governments (CAPCOG). |
HAYS COUNTY
Fireworks Selling Period Begins with No Restrictions in Hays County
The Hays County Fire Marshal's Office is warning residents that there is still fire danger associated with using fireworks, even though the area has experienced rainy weather recently. Because of the rain, fireworks vendors throughout unincorporated Hays County will be able to sell all types of fireworks allowed for personal use under state law.
While the rain has been a welcome end to the extreme drought conditions in Hays County over the past two years, it also means grass and other ground vegetation are taller, resulting in a larger fuel load on the ground. Winter weather conditions - such as high winds, low humidity and low temperatures - can quickly dry out the vegetation and make the fuel load prime for ignition. Fire experts refer to grass cured by a hard freeze as 1-hour dead fuel. Simply put, sunshine and low relative humidity can dry out grass within an hour and make it highly ignitable.
Beyond the dangerous possibility of setting a fire, residents also should consider their personal safety as well as the safety of others when using fireworks. |
