Nolan Ryan to Receive STAR Award and Two Leaders to Be Inducted into the Business Hall of Fame on September 11 | The Arlington Chamber announced the Star Award recipient for 2013 would be Nolan Ryan, CEO of the Texas Rangers. Nolan Ryan will accept the award at the Arlington Chamber's Annual Meeting & Awards Dinner on September 11, 2013 at the Arlington Convention Center. Constitutional Amendment for
Transportation Funding |
State legislators passed a proposed constitutional amendment for transportation funding that is about a quarter of what's needed, and got out of Austin as fast as they could. This proposal won't be on the ballot until November 2014. The final version of Senate Joint Resolution 1 is posted here.

Commerce announces NBC 5 Today Anchor Deborah Ferguson as emcee and keynote speaker Vicki Hitzges for Annual Inspired Women Luncheon.
Vicki Hitzges started her career communicating with the public in the front office for the Dallas Cowboys. Fifteen years later, she hosted their weekly TV show, "Special Edition." Vicki has also worked as a television news anchor and talk show host in Dallas where she interviewed five U.S. Presidents from Reagan to Clinton, as well as business moguls, movie stars and hall of fame athletes. Vicki knows the value of stories, humor, practical content and audience interaction.

LA helps to identify, train, empower and connect people with other people who want to make a difference in our community. Passing of Geep Donovan |
George "Geep" Roth Donovan, Jr, 70, of Arlington passed away August 6, 2013. Geep was a graduate of UT Arlington and the University of North Texas. He had a 25-year career teaching in the Arlington ISD. A valued member of the Arlington Chamber of Commerce, Geep had a passion for his hot sauce and salsa business helping many organizations with fundraising activities. |
