State of the School District Annual Address

Superintendent Dr. Marcelo Cavazos and the Board of Trustees will present an update on the district and the progress of the plan, "Achieve Today. Excel Tomorrow." A must hear event for faculty, administrators, parents, Arlington business leaders, civic leaders and the media, as Dr. Cavazos discusses new innovative programs and partnerships.

Nolan Ryan To Receive Chamber's Prestigious Star Award 
The Arlington Chamber announced the Star Award recipient for 2013 would be Nolan Ryan, CEO of the Texas Rangers. Nolan Ryan will accept the award at the Arlington Chamber's Annual Meeting & Awards Dinner on September 11, 2013 at the Arlington Convention Center.

  

The Arlington Chamber's Star Award is the highest recognition given by the Chamber of Commerce to an individual or organization for their significant contributions to the community. Nolan Ryan played a key role in recreating one of the most revered franchises in Major League Baseball after helping them out of near bankruptcy to their current preeminent position.

Legislators Still Trying to Address Transportation

CapitolState legislators are still in Austin, and whether they can find a transportation-revenue solution to get them out of town, or a settle in for a third special session, is anyone's guess. A new legislative update is posted here here.

Health & Wellness "Girls Night" at the Ballpark in Arlington is September 10
The Women's Alliance of the Arlington Chamber plans an exciting new event to be held at the Ballpark in Arlington in conjunction with a Rangers baseball game. A Health & Wellness "Girls Night at the Ballpark" will be held on September 10 at 3:30 pm. 
  • Health & wellness seminars from Arlington's leading hospitals, doctors and medical services.
  • Displays from leading Arlington health providers.
  • Dinner in the Hall of Fame area on Level 2.
  • Ticket to attend the 7:05 pm Ranger vs Pirates baseball game.

Women's Alliance Scholarship Applications & Hero Award Nominations Now Being Accepted 

The Women's Alliance of the Arlington Chamber annually awards two scholarships AND recognizes a community "Hero." Scholarship applications and Hero nominations are now being accepted. Deadlines are fast approaching.

Commerce announces NBC 5 Today Anchor Deborah Ferguson as emcee and keynote speaker Vicki Hitzges for Annual Inspired Women Luncheon.

 

Vicki Hitzges started her career communicating with the public in the front office for the Dallas Cowboys. Fifteen years later, she hosted their weekly TV show, "Special Edition." Vicki has also worked as a television news anchor and talk show host in Dallas where she interviewed five U.S. Presidents from Reagan to Clinton, as well as business moguls, movie stars and hall of fame athletes. Vicki knows the value of stories, humor, practical content and audience interaction.
