Meaningful Use in 2015 and Beyond

Understanding Meaningful Use in 2015 Webinar

On October 6, CMS released the final rule for the EHR Incentive Program in 2015 "to align Stage 1 and Stage 2 objectives and measures with the long-term proposals for Stage 3." Trish Harkness, CSSP, CHPS, Sr. ISS Services Consultant at Synōvim reviewed the specific changes in the final ruling during a Connections webinar on October 29.

Specialized Registries

Trish Harkness also provided the following helpful information related to the MU public reporting measure.
  • The public reporting measure may be challenging for the FQHCs that are VFC providers connecting through KHIN because they would lose their access to reports, vaccine ordering, etc.
  • The KDHE Infectious Disease specialized registry has been found to be a challenge for providers connecting to KHIN if the EHR vendor does not include ICD codes in the ADT (demographics) feed.
  • If they have not already done so, the clinics that are not actively sending information to the registries need to send an email to MeaningfulUse@kdheks.gov and request the Registration to Submit Data; the completed form must be submitted with 60 days of the start of their reporting period.
  • The Registration needs to be submitted one time for each measure.
    • If no Registration has previously been submitted, a Registration could be submitted for both the Immunization and Infectious Disease registry.
    • If the Registration for the immunization registry has already been submitted to KDHE (or the clinic is already exchanging immunization information), a Registration could be submitted just for the Infectious Disease registry.
  • If the clinic is submitting the Registration for the immunization registry, VFC providers may want to note their participation in the VFC program so they can (hopefully) be dropped lower in the interface queue or connect directly to WebIZ.
HIPAA Security Risk Analysis

All eligible providers planning to attest to meaningful use in 2015 must complete their security risk analysis (SRA)between January 1, 2015 and December 31, 2015. A recent Synōvim Healthcare Solutions Vitals newsletter includes more information about the SRA requirements.
