Improvements In The Lakemoor Police Department
The Village has been significantly investing in the Lakemoor Police Department and our Police Officers to improve the level of service it provides to its residents and visitors. One of the most visible improvements to the department is the addition of command staff which provides supervision at a much higher level than before. Since September the department has added a Sergeant and an Interim Deputy Chief which along with the Chief of Police. These changes have greatly enhanced the supervisory coverage of the Lakemoor Police employees. The department has also increased the number of Patrol Officers in the Department.
In addition to the supervisors, the Police Department has undergone some changes in infrastructure which has greatly enhanced how way we conduct our day-to-day operations. One of the biggest changes we made was installing a new network server which replaced a highly unstable and unreliable system. With the installation of the new server we have begun the process of installing a new Records Management System designed specifically for police departments of Lakemoor's size and growth potential. This system allows the police department to establish an in-house historical database which will be accessible to all of the on-duty personnel 24 hours a day, 7 days a week via their Mobile Data Computers.
We have also established a very ambitious and regimented in-house training process which will help increase the skill set of each and every police officer employed by the Village. All in-house training topics have structured lesson plans and these plans are strictly followed during the training cycles. By following established and approved lesson plans we can ensure that each officer is receiving the same level of training since most of the training is completed over a 4 to 6 week cycle. The training is spread out over this 4 to 6 week period in order to remain fiscally responsible and to attempt to train all officers on their regularly scheduled duty days.
Along with restructuring the training, we have been reviewing all internal policies and protocols to make sure that all of them reflect current practices. This process has begun and will take a substantial amount of time due to the amount of policies and procedures on file.
The Lakemoor Police Department also works collaboratively with other local, county, state and federal agencies in order to better serve the citizens of Lakemoor. We maintain relationships with the following organizations which will assist us if we become involved in a serious nature incident where multiple officers and or disciplines are needed to thoroughly investigate the incident:
- Lake County Major Crime Task Force (this task force will assist with any investigation which meets their criteria regardless of where the offense takes place, Lake or McHenry counties).
- Major Investigative Assistance Team (this task force is limited to McHenry County only and will assist on any major felony)
- Major Crash Assistance Team
- Lake County Gang Task Force
- McHenry County Gang Task Force
In addition to the above mentioned task forces which are designed to assist during incidents where additional help is needed, we also belong to several other professional organizations which will provide administrative support in the form of policy and protocol enhancement and department operations and culture improvement:
- Lake County Chiefs of Police Association
- McHenry County Chiefs of Police Association
- International Chiefs of Police Association
These improvements to the Lakemoor Police Department will ensure we have a professional Police Department who will continue to maintain one of the lowest crime rates in the area.
