A New Comprehensive Plan for Lakemoor

On February 28, 2013, the Lakemoor Village Board affirmed their commitment to Lakemoor's development and prosperity by voting unanimously to adopt the Lakemoor Comprehensive Plan. For more information, please download and read the following documents: final plan and the appendices, Existing Conditions Report, Public Engagement and Fiscal Analysis of Development Scenario.

Originally formed as a summer vacation destination, the Village of Lakemoor grew as visitors decided to settle in this community and enjoy its assets and natural scenery. Lakemoor surrounds Lily Lake and includes a number of small lakes, ponds, wetlands, and natural preserves within and adjacent to its boundary. Over the last 15 years, Lakemoor has experienced new residential development, primarily north of Route 120.

During the winter of 2011, the Village of Lakemoor embarked on an interactive, community-based process to update its comprehensive plan. The Lakemoor Comprehensive Plan provides a framework to make informed investment decisions, to address current community issues, and to reach long-term goals. Together, the Village of Lakemoor, community stakeholders, and CMAP explored opportunities in land-use planning, residential and commercial development, transportation, parks and open space, and numerous other aspects important to the Village's prosperity. The comprehensive plan builds upon the community's assets and identifies ways to support regional goals from the GO TO 2040 comprehensive regional plan. Click Here

Village Plans for Walking and Bicycle Paths

Bicycling and walking are integral components of an efficient transportation network. Appropriate bicycle and pedestrian accommodations provide the public, including the disabled community, with access to the transportation network, connectivity with other modes of transportation and independent mobility regardless of age, physical constraint, or income. Building effective "complete streets" with bicycle and pedestrian accommodations enhances quality of life and health, strengthens communities, increases safety for all modes of transportation, reduces congestion, offers recreational opportunities, and benefits the environment.

The long term plan for Lakemoor is to connect neighborhoods, parks, shopping and dining with walking and biking transportation options for our residents.

In addition, Lakemoor is close to several regionally significant trails, including the Millennium Trail and the McHenry Prairie Trail, which connects the Fox River Trail to the Wisconsin State line. In addition, there are several planned trail routes, including the extension of the IDNR Grand Illinois Trail from Moraine Hills State Park to the east, a Lake County trail along Darrell Road connecting several Lake County Forest Preserves including Black Crown Marsh, and a McHenry County trail that would run along Chapel Hill Road with a connection west on Lincoln Road.

Lakemoor plans to connect to these regional trails and maximizing the use of natural resources all around us.

Lakemoor has applied for grant funding for this project through the Illinois Department of Transportation and the Illinois Department of Natural Resourse.

Demolition of the structures spring 2012

Last year, the Village purchased 103 and 105 South Lakeshore Dr. These homes were adjacent to Morrison Park right on the shores of Lily Lake.  The Village demolished the homes, an old garage and the old bathroom facilities. The Village added approximately 1 acre of land to  Morrison Park, which is the center piece of the Village.

  Expanded Area of Morrison Park

The Village is currently in the design phase of the a new bathroom facility at Morrison Park. The location of this bathroom structure will be on the far Southeast area of the Park.  Below is a video of a prototype bathroom facility. This project is set to begin in mid summer 2013.

Peterson Park Expansion

The Village of Lakemoor has recently purchased three lots directly to the South our Peterson Park. The Village will be planning an expansion for this park in the near future. Recently, the Village installed new playground equipment in 2012.

Rockwell Subdivision Parks

Kirk

The Village has recently acquired the two parks in the Rockwell subdivision and has added them to Lakemoor's Park System. These two parks are now being maintained by Lakemoor's Public Works Department. The Village will be naming these parks in the near future with help from residents of Rockwell.

This is only part of the transformation the Village is undergoing as we undertake projects like these to improve amenities for our residents.
