A New Comprehensive Plan for Lakemoor

The Village of Lakemoor is embarking on an interactive, community based process to update its comprehensive plan. The comprehensive plan will provide a framework to make informed investment decisions, to address current community issues, and to reach long-term goals. Together, the Village of Lakemoor, community stakeholders, and CMAP will explore opportunities in land-use planning, residential and commercial development, transportation, parks and open space, and numerous other aspects important to the Village's prosperity. The comprehensive plan will identify and build upon the community's assets and identify ways to support regional goals from the GO TO 2040 comprehensive regional plan.

Message from Police Chief

Bill Kushner

The Lakemoor Police Department is changing. Perhaps you've seen some of the changes over the past year; new cars, new vehicle graphic designs, and some new officers. One of the biggest changes is one that you cannot see, and hopefully will not notice. That change is the switch we've recently made from using the McHenry County Sheriff's Communication Center for 911 service and radio communication to the Wauconda Police 911 Center.

This change came about for a couple of reasons; first and foremost was safety of both the officers on the street and the residents of our community. Second was the cost. The rates for service paid to McHenry County Sheriff's Dispatch, on top of the 911/ETSB tax each of us pays on our land line and cellular telephone bills was steadily increasing, without any change in service to the community. It was for those reasons that we began exploring our options.

The option that maximized safety for our residents and our officers, while minimizing the cost to the Village, was to go with the Wauconda 911 system. All 911 calls from Lakemoor are (for the time being) answered by McHenry City 911 and transferred to Wauconda. Previously, 911 calls from Lakemoor had been answered by either McHenry City or McHenry County and transferred (if needed) to the County for dispatch. This new process should actually decrease response time to a 911 call.

As I stated earlier; this is a change that should go unnoticed by you. If you have a problem with 911 calls, or police service in general, please feel free to contact me via phone at 815-385-4111, or via e-mail at chief @lakemoor.net.

Electronics No Longer Collected as Municipal Waste

On August 10, 2011, Governor Pat Quinn signed legislation (Senate Bill 2106) into law that impacts the recycling of electronic waste, or e-waste. In an effort to communicate proactively with our residents, we would like to make you aware of how this legislation will affect you. Click Here for more information.

HELP PREVENT THE SPREAD OF PERTUSSIS IN OUR COMMUNITIES!

GET VACCINATED

Pertussis (whooping cough) is a highly contagious disease and is generally transmitted person to person while coughing or sneezing. Whooping cough can last for several weeks and eventually lead to complications like pneumonia, encephalitis or pulmonary hypertension. In infants, this disease may lead to brain damage which can eventually cause death. Common symptoms include cough, runny nose, vomiting and sneezing. These symptoms may start appearing after the incubation period (typically 7-14 days).
