Heat Advisory

Wednesday - Friday

With temperatures expected to top 100 degrees over the next several days, a heat advisory has been issued. Residents should to take precautions to stay safe and healthy during this hot and potentially dangerous weather.

The hot weather has now become steamy weather as higher temperatures and humidity arrive this week. In these conditions, we must remember to stay cool and hydrated and continue to keep an eye on your neighbors.

Children and the elderly are particularly susceptible to heat-related illnesses and injuries, but everyone should remember to limit their activities during very hot weather, drink plenty of fluids, and avoid beverages that contain caffeine or alcohol.  When outdoors, limit strenuous activity, wear sunscreen and loose, light-colored clothing, and rest often in cool, shady areas.

Heat related illnesses such as heat exhaustion and heat stroke can be fatal if untreated and need to be taken seriously.  Residents should follow heat safety precautions and pay attention to the warning signs such as nausea, dizziness, and headaches.  If symptoms persist, call 9-1-1 immediately. Family, friends and neighbors are also urged to check in frequently with elderly residents who may need assistance during the hot weather.

If you know of someone in the Village who is elderly or handicap who might need a well-being check, please contact the Lakemoor Police Department at (815)385-4111.

Free Wood Mulch

Overview
The bad storm of July 11, 2011  has resulted in a supply of wood chips available for Village residents on a first-come basis. Public Works employees have been mulching the trees they have been trimming and the end product is now available, free to residents.

During daylight hours, Lakemoor residents may bring their own containers to collect the free chips at the entrance to the Public Works Facility, 333 Wegner Road.

For more information, call Village Hall at (815) 385-1117.

Mulch Benefits
Mulch helps retain the soil's moisture, provides weed and grass control, and protects tree trunks and surface roots from mowing equipment. Mulch also offers erosion control, breaking the rain's impact and helps improve the appearance of landscaping.

Further information about mulch can be found at the

US Department of Agriculture

Lakemoor Fest

August 12th, 13th & 14th

We Need Your Help

Lakemoor Fest is our annual, weekend long festival celebrating our community and it brings families together. The highlight of the festival is the fireworks show over Lily Lake.

Unfortunately, Lakemoor isn't the only Village that has faced cuts to its festival budget. The rising costs of fireworks has caused the Village to look for other sources of revenue to avoid reducing its fireworks display, shortening the event or outright cancelling the festival.

If you can afford it, please donate and help us keep the best fireworks show in the Chicagoland area.
