Winter Storm Warning - Greatest snowfall west and south of Lake County
A National Weather Service (NWS) Winter Storm Warning for heavy snow remains in effect for our area from 9 a.m. today through midnight tonight. The greatest snowfall is now expected to be west and south of Lake County. Intermittent snow is expected to continue through the morning, becoming more consistent and intense this afternoon. The most intense snowfall, with accumulation rates of an inch per hour possible, is expected this afternoon. Periods of intense snow will reduce visibility, and strong northeast winds (up to 20 mph with stronger gusts) may lead to blowing and drifting of snow. Snow accumulation of 4 to 8 inches is expected, but locally higher amounts are possible. Traffic on the roads and intense snowfall may cause challenges for crews working to clear snow, and motorists should plan ahead and be prepared for hazardous driving conditions. Motorists should allow extra time for travel, and be sure to have appropriate emergency supplies, including a charged cell phone, in their vehicle.
