Conservation Plant Sale is Now Accepting Orders.

Each year the Cheshire County Conservation District sells conservation products and plants to raise funds that support their services and programming. Each spring they take orders for mushrooms and plants including fruit trees, native shrubs and trees, and hardy perennials.

Jeffrey P. Smith Farm Scholarship Program is Now Accepting Applications and Donations for 2015
 
The Jeffrey P. Smith Farm Scholarship endeavors to connect young people with agriculture and the natural world around them.  With the hope to inspire the next generation of local farmers and local food supporters, by giving regional children an opportunity, through summer camp, after school programs, or membership to NOFA NH, to experience sustainable farming practices first-hand and watch their efforts bear fruit. 


Keene Winter Farmer's Market

At the Colony Mill Marketplace, 2nd and 4th Saturday of each month. 

You don't have to give up local food just because winter settled in. At the Winter Market, you can get lots of the same great food you enjoy from the same vendors you see at the Summer Market. You'll find the Winter Market at the Colony Mill Marketplace in Keene, at the corner of West and Island streets. It is on the second and fourth Saturday of each month from November to April from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., just inside the entrance near the Elm City Brewery.

The Belgian Mare Brewery in East Alstead's first brewery and what is quite possibly the only off-grid commercial brewery in the United States. Belgian Mare is a small wood-fired brewery specializing in bottle conditioned traditional ales. What they brew and how they brew it are equally important.

 

Seed Starting and Garden Planning Workshop

If you are new to gardening, or a little rusty, this is an opportunity to learn about choosing seeds, preparing for planting, starting seeds inside and transitioning them to the ground outdoors. See and learn about tools and techniques, browse resources, ask questions and begin planning for the growing year ahead. Think about what you might like to place on your table for your Thanksgiving meal. Seasonings  -  Attar Herbs & Spices

 

3 lbs. ground pork

1-1/2 C. fresh bread crumbs

½ C. evaporated or regular milk

½ C. chopped onion

1 clove garlic

2 tsp. salt

1 tsp. pepper

1 tsp. ground sage

½ tsp. mace

¼ tsp. ground cloves

½ C. celery leaves

2 eggs

  1. Pre-heat oven to 350.
  2. Make crumbs in blender. Pour into large mixing bowl.
  3. Put milk, garlic, celery and onion in blender along with 2 eggs and blend.
  4. Pour liquid over crumbs.
  5. Mix in meat and seasonings.
  6. Form mixture into balls - size depends upon your preference.
  7. Place in a rimmed cookie-type baking pan and bake in oven until slightly brown - about 10-15 minutes (depending upon size).

 

Add to a rich chicken gravy. Add boned chicken, if desired.

Serve with mashed potatoes, rice or eggs noodles.
