A Very Busy Autumn Ahead!!

Welcome to August!

It has been an odd summer of weather. A few hot days, a few cool days and some rain in between.  Sounds like the perfect maritime summer!

We have a busy fall coming up in 2015.  We are introducing a new program in the studio so that clients can come in and workout on their own on the Apparatus.  Read about Pilates Avatar below.

The very famous Mari Winsor is coming to the Precision Pilates studio on November 6th, 7th, and 8th.  Mari has only visited Canada to teach one other time, many years ago.  I am sure that many of you have had Winsor Pilates VHS tapes or DVD's in your collection at one time or another.  Mari has made the Traditional Pilates Matwork accessible to all and has trained the Hollywood Stars for years.  Mari was diagnosed with ALS just over a year ago, so we feel very privileged that she is sharing her time with us in November.
You can read more about her visit below.

I am headed to Toronto in September to teach for a couple of days at Lili Viola's Pilates studio on Younge Street. I will also be conducting assessments for potential apprentices to the teacher training program I will be teaching there over the coming 12 months.

All of us at Precision Pilates are very much looking forward to having you all back in the studio in a few short weeks.  It will be nice to fall back into a routine again!

Pilates Avatar!

You have heard us all talking and are probably wondering what the heck is a Pilates Avatar!  Are we going to turn into little Blue Pilates teachers?  No, that is not it.  Pilates Avatar is an audio and video resource that you as a client can use in conjunction with your private lessons and group classes to come to the studio more often yet at an affordable price!

How does it work?  You will work with your teacher to decide what level of Pilates Avatar is best for you. Over the course of 6-10 private lessons we will teach you the exercises, transitions, safety and more for that particular level.  Once we decide you are ready you will download your level from the Pilates Avatar website and begin practicing on your own!  If it is Matwork, you can do it anywhere at any time!  Just put the file on your iPod and lay down and workout!  If you are working on the reformer, you will download your workout, put it on your iPod and come to the studio to workout!  We have specific Pilates Avatar times on the schedule and you can register for whatever time suits your needs.  You'll be using the equipment along side of the other teachers teaching lessons.  Don't worry, we are supervising and we are here to answer your questions as you need.  Along with the audio download you will get the exercise list and order with repetitions, springs, equipment position etc.  You will come in to the studio to workout as often as you can. In 8-10 weeks you may be ready to move up a level depending how frequently you practice.

So what else is involved?  In order to take part in the Pilates Avatar with the equipment you must take a minimum of two private lessons per month to keep moving forward and improving.  If you are practicing Pilates Mat with the Avatar you should be coming to Mat classes as well.

What is the cost involved?  Pilates Avatar is a one time $25 download for your audio workout.  To come to the studio to use the reformer you pay the price of Mat class, a $20.00 drop in fee or you can just take a class off your Mat package.  So now you get to use the Pilates Refomer for the price of a Mat class!

Pilates Avatar will change your body fast, and allow you more flexibility in schedule.  Ask us if you have more questions!

Yummy Recipe for Your End of Summer Veggies!
- by Allie Murchison

When August comes it brings along some sadness as with it a lot of things begin to end: The warm weather, the late night bonfires, family road-trips, but most important to your health, fresh local produce.
For some people summer brings gardens full of ripe vegetables. For others we save money at the grocery store and support our local farmers. These vegetables all have an abundance of extra vitamins and nutrients that you can only find in fresh vegetables. When fall arrives, the extra nutrients from local veggies will be coming to an end.

Here is a YUMMY recipe to utilize some of the green in your fridge!
Smoky Panzanella with Market Vegetables
  • loaf or baguette of garlic bread, cut or torn into 1-inch cubes (about 6 cups)
  • Extra-virgin olive oil
  • Kosher salt and freshly cracked black pepper
  • 1 yellow bell pepper, seeded and cut into 1-inch
  • 1 orange bell pepper, seeded and cut into 1-inch dice
  • 1/4 cup red wine vinegar
  • 1/2 teaspoon Dijon Mustard
  • clove of garlic, grated or pressed
  • 1/2 cup olive oil
  • ounces smoked mozzarella cut into 1/3-inch dice
  • ounces snap peas, trimmed and sliced into thirds on the bias
  • ounces cherry tomatoes, halved
  • cup fresh basil leaves, torn
[these ingredients can be found at the farmers market or Real Food Connections, to support local and soak up the New Brunswick nutrients]
Directions:
Preheat the oven to 400 degrees F.
Grab a large mixing bowl, and cut the baguette into crouton -like sizes and mix it in the bowl with enough extra-virgin olive oil to coat liberally, and season with salt and pepper. Place the bread cubes in an even layer on one side of a large baking sheet. In the same mixing bowl, to limit the dishes used, toss the diced peppers with some extra-virgin olive oil, salt and pepper and place them on the other side of the baking sheet. Place the baking sheet into the oven to bake until the bread is crispy and golden brown and the peppers have softened, approximately 10 to 12 minutes.

Keep an eye on it so the bread doesn't burn!
While the bread and vegetables are cooking, make the vinaigrette. In a small mixing bowl, combine the vinegar, mustard and garlic. Slowly drizzle in the olive oil while whisking. Season the vinaigrette with salt and pepper.
Once the bread is toasted, combine the bread and peppers with the smoked mozzarella, snap peas and tomatoes (you can use the same bowl you tossed the bread and peppers in). Toss the salad with the vinaigrette and add the torn basil leaves. Let it marinate in the locally grown flavours for approximately 10 min before serving.

The Autumn Routine
by Allie Murchison

For parent, August can become tiring as we try to entertain our children between holidays, vacations, and work. This causes drastic lifestyle and routine change in comparison to when the children are back in school. We lose our routine in the summer and although summer does bring it also tends to add extra unwanted calories back into our life when the meals are eaten out, the beer is cold, and endless daylight keeps us nibbling until late.
During summer many routines are neglected but one of the easiest thing to get in the habit of having meals at the same time, whether you pack a lunch on your last road trip of the summer or you sit down to have a family meal we do have to eat. This helps us to get back into the 9-5 work week and school days that are approaching swiftly, without having cravings during odd times of the day. Perhaps try the meal mentioned above to get use of the last of our fresh summer vegetables!
