Osteopathy and Massage Therapy NOW Available at Precision Pilates!

Welcome to March!  With March is also March MATness.  Along with dozens of Pilates studios around the world and several others in Canada, we are participating in the 2015 March MATness.  A celebration of Joe Pilates original matwork.  Although we know that there are over 500 Pilates exercises on all the apparatus and only 34 Mat exercises, we still realize that the heart of the method, and what we can all aspire to, is really really good Matwork.

Every day on the Precision Pilates Facebook Page we are posting photos and descriptions of the Pilates Matwork exercises.  Follow us to read up on your favourite (and not so favourtie) exercises!

There is always something new happening at Precision Pilates!  We are so excited to welcome Adam Ridgewell to our team of professionals.  Adam is a trained Osteopath and Massage Therapist and he will be offering both services and Posture Pro at our studio.

Osteopathy, Posture Pro, and Pilates are incredibly complimentary.  The things that Adam helps you with will be reiterated in Pilates and vice versa.

I am especially excited as I have been accepted to the Osteopathic Manual Therapy program at Dalhousie University starting in 2016. Having Adam in the studio will jump start my learning and give me a place right at home to complete my clinical hours!

I want to re-post our cancellation and  Storm Day Policy for your review.  Please take care to read this carefully.

I look forward to seeing you all in the studio!

Storm Day Policy

With winter, comes storm days.  We DO have a policy for this, please read it carefully.

- School Cancellation does NOT mean that classes are cancelled.  Please LOOK at the online schedule and check your email to see if your class has been cancelled.

- If you can not make it to your group class, YOU MUST let us know or our regular cancellation policy applies. (read Below)

- Private lessons ALWAYS require a cancellation.  We will shorten the window to 12 hours rather than 24 hours in the event of a storm.  Our teachers WILL come to work on storm days. If you are a 'no show' for your appointment or class, you will be charged.

You may cancel via the online system, email, text, or phone (please leave a message)

Studio Cancellation Policy

All private lessons cancelled without 24 hours notice are subject to a $25 fee.

Private lessons cancelled the 'day of' are charged as a full lesson.

Due to many classes and appointment times being full, if you do not cancel your space, others can not attend class.

You can cancel via the online software, send us an email, give us a call, or text our phone number.

We do understand that sometimes there are circumstances beyond your control.  If this is the case, let us know.

Authentic Pilates Canada Apprentices

In April of 2014, three apprentices began their journey to become traditional Pilates teachers.  The 700 hour Authentic Pilates Canada Teacher Education and Apprenticeship program is the first and only one of its kind in Canada.  With more than 100 hours of class time, and 600 hours of full apprenticeship consisting of practice teaching, personal practice of the Pilates method, and observation, the program is rigorous.

Nearly one year later, two apprentices have completed their final exams and will graduate by the end of March, and the third has successfully passed her 400 hour test and will complete the final exam by summer.

Cara is incredibly proud of the apprentices as they have become excellent practitioners and teachers of Joe Pilates body of work.  The subtleties of the method are being learned and the apprentices are developing their abilities to read the movements of the body in front of them and thus choose which exercise on what apparatus will gain the best result. This is a skill that takes years to develop and is not taught in contemporary Pilates programs or programs that do not require an apprenticeship.  This is true mark of the traditional Pilates work as passed down through the direct lineage of Joseph Pilates.

Private lessons with the apprentices are currently $30.00 taxes included.  Once they graduate they will be on the regular schedule offering classes and private lessons at a Junior teacher rate.

The Junior teacher rate will be as follows:
$50.00 per private lesson
$285.00 for six private lessons,
$450.00 for ten private lessons (plus tax).

The rates for senior teachers are as follows:
$65.00 per private lesson
$370.50 for six private lessons
$585.00 for ten private lesson

With five Pilates teachers to choose from and 50 different possible times to schedule a lesson weekly, what are you waiting for?

What is Osteopathy?

We are thrilled to be welcoming Adam Ridgewell to our team!  Adam is an Osteopath who completed his education at the British College of Osteopathic Medicine.  http://www.bcom.ac.uk/

Adam is also a trained and practicing Massage Therapist and will be offering these services as well.

Osteopathy is a patient centered approach for a wide range of medical conditions. Osteopathy is based on the  principle that good health  and harmonious interrelation  of skeleton, muscles, ligaments  and connective tissue are crucial to an individual's well being. Osteopathic care commences with the identification of the cause(s) of  the complaint and then uses  soft tissue work and gentle  physical manipulation and appropriate self care advice on dietary intake, exercise/life-style, emotional/psychological well-being  to  improve function, aid health  and reduce the risk of re-occurrence of the presenting complaint.

In 1994, after watching his health being depleted from a very sedentary lifestyle, Adam wanted to discover how to change, so he fully committed to the study of health and how he could apply his knowledge to assist others. Adam enrolled in the World's best Massage Therapy program in Vancouver, Canada in 1995. This took him 3.5 years to complete. He worked with professional athletes and common folk alike in the UK and with Golf professionals on the European continent from 1999 to 2008. He also attained a Bachelor of Science degree in Osteopathic Medicine (2004), and has recently evolved his practice into utilising postural re-programming to complete the picture of his clients' health (2012) www.posturepro.ca

Furthermore, Adam is extremely interested in different exercise and nutrition protocols and how they compliment our healing processes.

It is Adam's greatest wish, that he may be able to use his knowledge and skills, with other dedicated health practitioners, to develop sharper awareness of healthy living into our great communities!

We at Precision Pilates welcome Adam to our team.  You can book Adam's services online with the regular scheduling software you use for all your Pilates classes.  You'll also see him around the studio plenty!!
