"BRINGING HOLLYWOOD HOME"
 |
Rajiv Dalal, center, Director of The Mayor's Office of Motion Picture and Television Production, spoke at the Universal City North Hollywood Chamber of Commerce Networking Breakfast Sept. 23 at the Sportsmen's Lodge Events Center in Studio City. Also pictured are Zaven Pogosyan and Carson Schreiber, board members.
|
The state's new bill to create $330 million a year in film tax credits, signed by Gov. Brown with great fanfare in Hollywood, will significantly help "to bring Hollywood home," Rajiv Dalal told members and guests at our Sept. 23 networking breakfast. Dalal is director of Mayor Garcetti's Office of Motion Picture and Television Production.
Runaway production, with so many films and television shows being made out of state or out of the country, has cost us a lot of middle-class jobs, Dalal said. The tax credits will be awarded based on economic impact and how many jobs the project creates, he stated. "We're looking at bringing back 8,000 to 9,000 middle-class jobs over the course of the next 5 years," he predicted. The money spent will go to local businesses, for products and services, as well as jobs, he said.

Walk to School Day 2014
Register Today! Don't Delay! Register your event and request event planning support online at www.walktoschoolday-la.org register or by phone at (323) 942-9873.
What is Walk to School Day? Walk to School Day is a yearly national event that encourages physical activity among children and youth. It is a way for parents, students, school personnel and other community members to directly experience the walk to school as they walk with students on the day of the event. It often generates wider teaching about the importance of physical activity, awareness of the fun of walking, and early identification of safety concerns. When is it? On or around October 8, 2014, depending the event date that works best for your school. Who should organize it? A local parent, program provider, or other person who can be the main point of contact and arrange for 5-10 volunteers to help on Walk to School Day to host tables and provide rewards (e.g. stickers) to children walking.
How will event organizers be supported?
LADOT will provide registration, training and promotional material and event support as requested by organizers. What about concerns for safety? If you or someone at your school is interested in hosting a Walk to School Day event, but concerned about kids' personal and traffic safety, we can work with trusted community organizations to figure out how to make the event best for your school, including 'walk to school' day or other community based solutions. Why should we participate? It's a great way to celebrate walking to school and highlight activities at your schools that can increase physical activity, improve health, and address personal and traffic safety concerns. What is the LAUSD position on Walk to School Day? LAUSD supports Walk to School events as a means to promote healthier and safer school zones, and encourages local organization of events by the leadership and parent groups of individual schools. |
