Notes from the Programmers
End of ASNA Support
As first announced in June 2013 via Allegiance Live, and then followed up with a letter to our ASNA users in November 2013, Allegiance will no longer support ASNA databases as of December 2014. The following is a partial recap of that announcement.

The release of Version 9.1 of the Fundraising, Auction, and Volunteer Management systems completes the transition to the .NET programming environment, which started with Version 8.6.3. With the release of Traffic & Corporate Support Version 9.1, anticipated for the end of this year, all Allegiance products will be 100% .NET, eliminating the need for ASNA licenses.

Allegiance software was originally written for ASNA, which was considered a modern database back in the days when Windows was new technology. As Windows continually adds updates, the ASNA product we are using will become less reliable. This means we will be unable to guarantee that ASNA will work with new operating systems. SQL is at the core of Microsoft database products. As one of the world's largest software companies, Microsoft has made SQL Server the gold standard. Another advantage of using SQL is speed. Allegiance reports and queries, needed to make critical operational decisions, are much faster.

Future versions of both Fundraising and Traffic (Version 9.2 and beyond) will not run on an ASNA database.

What does this mean to your organization if you are currently using ASNA as your database?
  • You will no longer see a line item on your annual renewal invoice for ASNA.
  • You can continue using ASNA by continuing to use your current version of Allegiance (Traffic users will be able to upgrade to 9.1).
  • If you change servers (or if you need a new ASNA license key) you will need to purchase a key (currently it is part of your annual ASNA maintenance fee).
What options do you have if your organization wants to upgrade?
  • All the Allegiance systems will run on Microsoft SQL Server (Allegiance is a reseller) and MYSQL.
  • Another option is to move your data to our Cloud Solution. Allegiance will host your software in a hardened and secure data center in Fargo, ND to provide continual access to your data. Our robust computing engine and data storage vault ensures you will get the most value from your investment in Allegiance.
Please contact Ryan Sunram (800-858-7654) if you would like more information on purchasing SQL Server. Contact Joni Janz Peterson (877-858-7654) with questions about transitioning from your ASNA database to a SQL database.

End of the Email Feature in the Web Module

Starting with Fundraising Version 9.1 no additional enhancements have been added to the email feature of the Allegiance Web Module and beginning with Fundraising Version 9.2, the email feature will no longer be available. Due to the wide variations in browsers and email programs, maintenance and further development of the email feature is no longer feasible. So to replace the email feature and better serve our users, we have developed a robust and seamless integration to Constant Contact®, a leader in providing small businesses and nonprofits with email marketing tools. This interface allows Allegiance users to seamlessly connect lists and subscriptions created in Fundraising with email marketing tools in Constant Contact, including merge fields and automatic synchronization of subscribe and unsubscribe requests.
As a Constant Contact partner, Allegiance can give you a quote, set up your account, and train your staff on the Allegiance end of the partnership at no cost. Constant Contact bases their fee on the number of email addresses stored so users may send an unlimited number of emails. If your organization already has a Constant Contact account, a Gateway Record in the Fundraising system is all you need. Simply email support or call them at 877-858-7654.

Please email Ryan or call him at 800-858-7654 for information on signing up for Constant Contact.
