Allegiance Live
May 2014

Notes from the Programmers
Did you know that Allegiance Software has an Advisory Council made up of our users? In 2010 we developed the idea of creating an Advisory Council and began with five users, each serving a two-year term. Then in July of 2011 we selected five additional users to also serve two-year terms. Now every year five users rotate off the Advisory Council and are replaced by five new Council members, thereby always keeping a ten-member Council. There are four Allegiance staff members on the Council as well.

The goals of the Council are to:
  • represent our clients' wide range of needs and perspectives,
  • provide insight on industry trends and changes,
  • give input on future enhancements to our software,
  • and, to be a compass for Allegiance to help guide growth in the right direction.
When we began, we had one annual meeting on-site here in Fargo and monthly hour-long conference calls. Currently we are only holding the monthly conference calls, but we are researching options to return to an annual face-to-face meeting. During some of our conference calls we connect through WebEx to show demos of development projects to make sure we are on the right track.

The input provided by the Council has brought about:
  • changes in support staff development to better meet client needs,
  • changes in pricing and delivery of webinars,
  • creation of the Allegiance User Forum to increase feedback and communications,
  • setting priority of development projects,
  • and many insightful development suggestions.
As a member of the Advisory Council for the last year and a half I feel the insights provided by our client members is very valuable. Getting direct feedback and the brainstorming of ideas has been great. As the manager of Software Development I don't have the opportunity for a lot of one-on-one interaction with the clients, and I value the opportunity the Advisory Council has given me to hear right from clients as far as what they like and don't like, and what problems we can help them solve.

The current members of the Advisory Council are: Rob Walker, WOSU; Troy Davis, PPTV; Cindy Michelson, WFSU; Lynn Treffry, KSPS; Stephanie Dautel, KBYU; Brian Fergus, KJZZ; Lori Street, KOZK, Holly Gaete, KUT; Frank Kavenik, IHRadio; and Glenda Davis, WABE.
