Sustainable Minds is making transparent business even more achievable with the Material Health Overview. This tool is used to make material health information understandable, by combining Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs) and material health reporting tools into one report. When manufacturers make claims about safer products and healthier buildings, Material Health Overviews provide a means to ensure this information is understandable, transparent, and verified through a third-party. GreenCircle's Annie Bevan, along with Mark Rossi of Clean Production Action, will be participating in one of a series of webcasts to explain the importance of transparency and third-party certification when using various material health reporting tools. Mark and Annie will be specifically discussing using GreenScreen tools and methods to comply with LEED v4 as well as LEED v4 Compliance certification.

This month, we are celebrating a client who successfully achieved GreenCircle certification - congratulations to CURRIES!
CURRIES, an ASSA ABLOY company, has received GreenCircle's Sustainable Manufacturing Practices certification at their Mason City, IA facility! Through implementation of upgraded lighting fixtures with more advanced technologies; more efficient boilers and chillers; reduced water flow at rinse stations, and increasing recycling efforts after auditing waste processes, CURRIES (as compared to a 2011 baseline year) has reduced their carbon footprint by 8%, reduced energy use by 12%, reduced water use by 25%, reduced waste 2%, and successfully diverts 96% of its waste from landfill. Wow!
We look forward to seeing how CURRIES utilizes their certification moving forward, and what improvements they come up with for next year!

US GSA and DOE Promote Third-Party Validated Sustainability Claims in Government Procurement!
The US General Services Administration and the US Department of Energy have released the GSA-DOE Verification Guide for Federal Purchasers of Sustainable Products. This guide was released to assist Federal agencies in validating contractor compliance with sustainability standards that may be detailed in contracts. The guide details what agencies should be looking for in contractors, how sustainable guidelines should be worded in contracts, and the verification process of documenting sustainable purchasing. Specifically, products with multi-attribute sustainability labels and third-party certification should be preferred over self-reporting manufacturers.
The Verification Guide highlights the Department of Defense's Multi-Attribute Label Pilot with GreenCircle, used to distinguish manufacturers supplying sustainable products, packaging, and manufacturing processes. We are proud to be recognized as a credible provider of third-party certification by the Federal Government, and excited to see this continue to drive improvement throughout the supply chain. If you're looking for some Federal Procurement tips and tricks, read the full guide here or contact Annie Bevan at Annie@GreenCircleCertified.com

Study Confirms Consumers Value Accountability and Transparency in Business
It's not just about being green! While PSRAI's 2015 Public Affairs Pulse survey shows that nine out of ten Americans think businesses should protect the environment, and 76% of Americans think businesses should limit their environmental damage, the study shows that businesses need to do more! A company needs to be accountable and transparent to gain the trust of the consumer- and, right now, only 10% of Americans say that they have a lot of trust in the ethical behavior of business.
With such a large gap between the trust desired by consumers and their actual confidence in providers, companies need to authenticate and validate their claims of ethics and responsibility. Third-party certification is the perfect way to highlight your company's transparent policies and demonstrate the positive impact that you are making on the environment.
