Greenbuild 2013 Comes to Philadelphia!

The Greenbuild International Conference & Expo, the world's largest dedicated to green building, is coming to SSC's backyard this month, and we couldn't be more excited. Greenbuild provides a platform for industry leaders to come together and advance sustainable principles and practices. With the official release of the new LEED v4 rating system at the conference, this year's expo is a can't-miss event! It is also a great opportunity for us to share and broaden our expertise so we can continue to provide innovative, world-class services to our clients.

For those of you who are attending the conference, November 20-22, we hope to connect with you! We would be happy to answer your questions or offer some insight into any challenges you're facing. If you would like to set up a meeting or just touch base, contact Tad or a member of the SSC team:

Our sister company, GreenCircle Certified, LLC, has Greenbuild Expo passes available. If interested, please contact AshLee Klingman at [email protected].

Philadelphia at the Forefront: Recent SSC Projects

In the spirit of Greenbuild coming to Philadelphia, we want to highlight several recent Philadelphia green building projects. The diverse range of building types, sizes, and scopes in our project portfolio demonstrates the growing commitment to making Philadelphia one of the most sustainable cities in the country. Below are brief project profiles.

Sam Staten Sr. Office Building - LEED for New Construction, Certified LEED Silver

This 25,000 sq. ft. office building located on Broad Street features a vegetated (green) roof and the utilization of rainwater for toilet flushing, creating an energy and water efficient space. Additionally, during construction, 75% of waste was diverted from landfills. This project illustrates that using advanced construction techniques can have measurable impact with little to no additional costs.

Samuel Staten Sr. Office Building
Jewish Federation

Jewish Federation of Greater Philadelphia - ENERGY STARCertified

SSC conducted an Energy Audit of the Jewish Federation facility located on Arch Street, which received an ENERGY STAR certification. Based on Energy Conservation Measures (ECMs) identified by SSC, the JFGP implemented energy upgrades that have resulted in a 38% annual reduction in energy costs.

YIKES Inc.

YIKES Inc. - LEED for Homes, Certified LEED Platinum

The YIKES project was a gut rehab of an underutilized Fishtown property. A combination of residential and commercial office space, it was the first LEED Platinum mixed-use rehab project in Pennsylvania.

Youthbuild U.S.A. - LEED for Homes

The mission of YouthBuild U.S.A. is "to unleash the intelligence and positive energy of low-income youth to rebuild their communities and their lives". Working with Youthbuild, SSC fosters youth education and development while advancing green building practices within the local community. To date, we have worked with Youthbuild on two separate projects:

  • Greene St. - LEED for Homes , Certified LEED Platinum
  • Wingohocking St. - LEED For Homes, Goal of LEED Platinum
Youthbuild Greene St.

GridSTAR - LEED for Homes

SSC is excited to bring its extensive green building knowledge and design experience to this LEED for Homes project with a goal of LEED Platinum certification. In partnership with Saint-Gobain and Penn State University, the GirdSTAR project is a key component of the Philadelphia Navy Yard. It is a demonstration of 'smart grid' technologies including solar power, demand response, and DC-grid.
