Not My Kid

Greetings!

As a parent, we're always working to keep our children safe from danger. From their first baby steps to the first car keys, we are there for them-teaching life skills and setting limits so they will succeed and thrive. Parenting gets more challenging when kids reach adolescence.  Teens naturally push limits, test boundaries, and make choices that baffle and worry us.

While most of the teens in our community are making healthy decisions and many of us can say, "Not my kid" when it comes to drug and alcohol abuse, the fact remains that drugs and alcohol are very much a part of our teens everyday lives. Binge drinking, marijuana use, prescription drug abuse, and heroin are some of the issues that are affecting our community.  Social pressures, academic stress, media influences and a growing need for independence are just some of the factors that may put teens at risk for initiating such substances.

Therefore, it is important that we educate ourselves on the information and experiences our teens will be exposed to as they navigate adolescence. By doing so we can empower ourselves with the knowledge needed to help our teens avoid these destructive behaviors and become aware of the signs of potential problems before they occur.
