From Our Superintendent, Merida Brooks WCA is incredibly blessed by the men and women who volunteer their time to serve on our Board of Directors. The WCA Board is self-sustaining and their only employee is the superintendent. These individuals give tirelessly of their time to set policy, oversee operations, steward resources and to provide a strong spiritual covering for all things Westminster. Being personally blessed by their commitment to Jesus and the mission of WCA, it is a joy to announce our newest Board member, Bryan Rhinehart. I have asked him to introduce himself to our Westminster Family. Hello, my name is Bryan Rhinehart and I have recently joined the Board at Westminster. "Who are you?" you may ask...I'm glad you asked. Eleven years ago I married Kim, who has been and continues to be my best friend, my muse and my match. Our family has since grown to five and now I am better known as Jesse, Kate and Abby's dad. I am a New Orleans native and a UL graduate who now works in Lafayette as the President of Relevant Coaching, an international leadership coaching and consulting group. I am a certified coach who spends my days bringing truth, life and fresh perspective to leaders. That said, if you asked my kids what I do, they would reply, "He asks people a lot of questions," and then proudly announce that I once worked at McDonalds.I spend nights with my family in conversation, listening to the kid's stories, talking with Kim, playing games, watching "Frozen" for the 900th time, and enjoying my favorite sound...laughter. I love a good story and figure that God must like them too because he made my kids and they have amazing imaginations! Highlights of my life thus far have been playing violin at the 1984 World's Fair, doing translation work with cannibals in Papua New Guinea, tribal missions in the Philippines, finding out Kim actually liked me, having three beautiful children, starting Relevant Coaching, winning a Sgt. Slaughter action figure in a GI Joe contest (I was young), and most of all falling head over heels in love with Jesus Christ. My passion for God, family and education has deep roots in my own family heritage. "Love God. Love people", were among the last words spoken by my mother's mother. Those values and beliefs run deeply in my family and continue to guide me to this day. Thank you for the opportunity to serve you and this great school. It is an honor and a responsibility that I do not take lightly.Love God. Love People. We Are Westminster.By His Grace, Bryan
His!

Around Campus
Opelousas Campus - Heritage Manor Field TripAs a part of their mission projects for the 2013-21014 school year, the three third grade classes from the Opelousas campus have adopted Heritage Manor, a nursing home in Opelousas. Just this week, 50 students and three teachers ventured by school bus to the Manor to sing songs, recite Scripture, and deliver individual Scriptures and poems to give hope and peace. The culmination of their ministry was to present to each resident a pair of socks decorated with paint, by the students.
Lafayette Campus - K5 Pioneer Day
Friday, April 25, the Lafayette campus Kindergarteners celebrated their annual "Pioneer Day". This end-of-the-year celebration allows the students to go back in time to experience an era of exploration without modern-day luxuries. Panning for gold, soap making, horse and buggy rides, rag-doll making for the girls and fishing poles for the boys were among some of the activities planned to allow the students to experience pioneer living. All the festivities are followed by a family style picnic of fried chicken, corn, cake and ice cream, with fresh-squeezed lemonade and watermelon. We are so grateful for all the parental contributions and assistance to make this a wonderful memory for our Westminster Kindergarteners. We wish all our little pioneers "happy trails" as they move on to their Elementary school adventures!
Opelousas Campus - NHS Induction

Lafayette Campus - First Grade Sensory WalkThe first grade students participated in a sensory walk after learning about all five senses. After the students were divided into groups, each group had a chance to test their senses while blindfolded. Activities included smelling the various items and touching different textures such as cooked noodles and jello. They also listened to the sounds of different instruments, the accordion and keyboard, and used their eyes to see optical illusions.
Opelousas Campus - 2014 Senior Footwashing The senior foot washing ceremony took place on Wednesday, April 30. Some of our WCA staff, teachers, and administrators spoke life into each of our senior students and washed their feet. Pray that this will serve as a final reminder of all Christ has poured into their lives over their time spent at WCA.
Both Campuses - Elementary Speech Meet To keep the outstanding opportunity of the ACSI Speech Meet going, WCA hosted, on Tuesday, April 29, at the Lafayette Campus. Three elementary divisions competed in poetry, fables and folktale, patriotic oration, and Scripture recitation. Our special thanks go to Mrs. Boudreaux and her staff in preparing the site for our visitors. How delightful that our two campuses produced so many gold medals!

Lafayette Campus - National Day of Prayer & Family Picnic
Mrs. Brooks was the guest speaker on the Lafayette campus Thursday, May 1. She focused on the blessing that at Westminster we GET TO! We GET TO gather daily in a Christian school, we GET TO pray at any moment of the day, and we GET TO love on each other as brothers and sisters in Christ. At Westminster WE GET TO! After the assembly, parents and students visited and ate a picnic style lunch on campus grounds.
Opelousas Campus - Preschool National Day of Prayer
Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord! Psalm 33:12
The privilege of celebrating the freedom of praying to the one true and living God of the Bible is afforded our nation. The preschool students of Westminster Christian Academy led the community in celebrating this freedom on the steps of the St. Landry Parish courthouse Thursday, May 1, the National Day of Prayer. The preschool students have gathered to show their gratitude to our Lord for granting the United States citizens this freedom for more than twenty years. We are so proud of the young students who pray for the federal, state and local government. The students also prayed for our law enforcement officers who help keep us safe.

Afterward, families gathered on the WCA front lawn for picnics.

WCA Moms In Prayer Group is Serving S.O.U.L Food! (Serving Others Uniting Lives)
2nd Annual Mother's Day Dinner & Devotion - Sunday, May 4
WCA's Moms in Prayer are so excited to join forces again with Hope for Opelousas (HFO) to host the 2nd annual Mother's Day Dinner & Devotion on May 4, 2014 at the HFO location on Madison Street. Our desire is to be living epistles to the mothers and grandmothers of the children tutored and mentored at HFO...a place where the foundational teaching is that "LOVE changes everything." We want to share the love of Jesus by serving them a meal, providing daycare and activities for their children, and blessing them with devotional resources and Bibles.
Our group of mothers is covering the cost of the catered meal, in addition to drinks, paper goods, and decorations. Super One Foods has generously agreed to donate dessert.
However, we are reaching out to you, our WCA family, for additional needs and would so appreciate your prayerful consideration for donations or assistance in the following areas:
- Meal for the children in daycare (approximately 40) to include hot dogs, chips, cookies, and drinks.
- Cost of 35 Women's Devotionals and "The Story" Bible for each mother and grandmother
- High School volunteers to serve and assist the children in daycare
- Cost of craft activities to allow the children to create a gift for their mothers and grandmothers
- Donations for door prizes such as hair and nail salon, coffee shop gift cards, bath and body gift sets, etc.
If you would like to donate, please contact Brooke Lafleur at 337-278-0510 or blafleurot@yahoo.com. HFO can provide a Tax ID statement and number for tax purposes if necessary.
If your high school student would like to volunteer, please contact Mrs. Baker or Mrs. Rivers.
