VOLUME 4, ISSUE 20                                                 February 1, 2013

From Our Superintendent, Merida Brooks

At Westminster Christian Academy, we love giving back to our communities and they graciously pour back into us.  What a joy to see all of our Community Helpers come and visit our preschool classrooms this month!

The wheels on the bus went "round and round" all around the Lafayette parking lot recently! Preschool students on all of our campuses are studying community helpers in the month of January. Melissa Trahan, a Lafayette Campus parent, graciously volunteers each year so that our K4 students can experience their very first school bus ride as they sing and ride all around the campus.

Mr. Lindsey Saucier visited from the Opelousas Fire Department to share with the Opelousas preschool students about fire safety and how he helps keeps our community safe.

Community Helper 2
Dusty Leblanc from Brent's Catering shared his special talent as a baker and cake designer at the Opelousas Campus.  Dusty even let the children take part in cake and cupcake decorating.  Of course, they got to eat their special creations!

re-enroll now Re-enroll While There is Still Room!
Re-enrollment fee has increased by $100
Even though it is February, you may still re-enroll your child(ren).  The fee has gone up $100, so you will owe $500 ($200 re-enrollment fee and $300 tuition deposit).  The fee will increase by another $100 in March, but more importantly, we are now accepting applications for new students and will be testing and accepting these students to fill our classrooms.  To ensure a place for your student in a WCA classroom in the fall, please take the time to re-enroll.

The re-enrollment process is an online process and payment by check/cash/money-order is due in the Admissions Office.  At this time, you can re-enroll your entire family for $500.

If you are in need of assistance, have misplaced your username and password, or have any other questions, please contact the Admissions Office.

Walk for Life

On Saturday, January 26th, 40+ WCA C4L (Crusaders For Life) members, faculty, and parents participated in the 26th Annual St. Landry Parish Walk for Life.  The morning began with a LIFE message and then everyone proceeded to walk down Hwy 182 1.6 miles to the New Life Center.  The procession was a solemn one as we were asked to pray that hearts and minds of people everywhere would be changed, and an end to abortion would come.  What an incredible experience for all involved.

Mission Team Preparing for Mexico
Celebration Banquet March 2, 2013

Our Mission Team is joining forces with missionary, Jim Nichols.  Dr. Nichols is a parent of alumni, Natalie Nochols, and has been a missionary in Chiapas, Mexico for the last nineteen years.  There are 31 states in Mexico and Chiapas is one of the poorest of the poor.  The residents are descendants of the Mayan Indians and many do not even speak Spanish! Tzotzil is the local dialect spoken, so even Spanish must be translated to Tzotzil.

The team will help to complete a church to seat about 150 people in a village.  The foundation has been poured and the walls are up waiting for our team to arrive.  God had already provided the $8,000 needed to send ahead for the building materials to be on site when the team arrives.  The local residents have completed the process of building the foundation and walls in preparation of the team's arrival.  Our WCA team will build rafters, put on the roof, plaster and paint the walls, and build pews. The team will have a dedication ceremony before they leave.

The Mission Team covets your prayers as they travel to Chiapas, Mexico during their Winter Break, February 9-17, 2013.  Plan to attend the Celebration Banquet on March 2, 2013 to see pictures and hear testimonies of the trip.  There will be a silent auction to raise funds for next year's trip.   Donations to the Mission Team are welcome and can be sent to the Development Office, 186 Westminster Drive, Opelousas, LA 70570.
