VOLUME 4, ISSUE 12                                                    November 9, 2012

From Our Superintendent, Merida Brooks

First of all, then, I urge that entreaties and prayers, petitions and thanksgivings, be made on behalf of all men, for kings and all who are in authority, in order that we may lead a tranquil and quiet life in all godliness and dignity. This is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Savior, Who desires all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth. For there is one God, and one mediator also between God and men, the man Christ Jesus...

1 Timothy 2:1-4 NAS

Ah, the election is over! Once again Americans have peacefully gone to polls to vote their opinions and convictions and now we have the privilege of praying for our President and the other elected officials in our State and in our Nation.

It is also a fresh reminder to all of us that in Christ we are citizens of another country, one in the heavens, not made with hands. We are all passing through and for those who are in Christ, we are His ambassadors ~ His resident representatives here on earth!

Trust in the Lord and do good; dwell in the land and cultivate faithfulness. Psalm 37:3

May we represent Him well in all things during our sojourn on earth keeping our eyes upon Him, the Author and Finisher of our faith.

His!

Hope for Opelousas

Take time to read this tender real life story of hope

A Great-Grandmother's Story of Hope

As an Occupational Therapist, I have been treating home health patients in the Opelousas area for five years. All of my patients have tugged on my heartstrings in one way or another because they all have a story. Many times, as with all of us who are healthcare professionals, we often are involved in their story because of trials or tragedy. When we are fortunate, we are allowed to witness their triumphs over the tragedies too. Such is the story of one Opelousas great grandmother desperately wanting to see her grandchildren succeed in school and a local ministry in our city meeting that need and so much more.  Read More

Hope for Opelousas is a non-profit outreach organization rooted in the belief that God loves Opelousas and that His love changes everything. Through youth enrichment programming, battling poverty and its results, and providing opportunities for people to serve one another, we work to provide resources and support to our impoverished city. It is our belief that God has gone before us, and by engaging a whole community we can work towards restoration.  HFO is run entirely with donor funds and is supported by local volunteers from varying backgrounds; we are an incorporated, 501c-3 approved, nonprofit organization.  Hope for Opelousas was one of the beneficiaries of WCA's "Unite for Opelousas".

Make a Difference Day Update
Book Drive
K-12 classes held a book drive on October 22-26 in conjunction with "Let's Make a Difference Day" held nationally this year on October 27th. The Lafayette Daily Advertiser spearheaded the drive throughout Acadiana, and Daily Advertiser empoyees joined WCA students and faculty as we delivered over 20 boxes of books to the Opelousas Boys and Girls Club, one of the beneficiaries of WCA's "Unite for Opelousas".  It was a huge success, and the Boys and Girls Club was blessed by the generosity of our WCA families.  Thank you for your participation as WCA gives back to our communities.

Coordinator Needed on the Opelousas Campus
You may, or may not know, but there is a group of moms that meet together weekly on both the Lafayette and Opelousas Campuses to pray for the needs of our school and our WCA families.  The Opelousas Campus is in need of someone who is called to serve the group as a coordinator.  If you are interested in learning more, please contact Mrs. Tonya Lanclos at 337.948.8607.  You can also email any prayer requests you have to Tonya at [email protected].  Mrs. Lanclos will pass on the requests to the Opelousas ladies.

Lafayette Campus Mission Team
On Monday, October 29, the third through sixth graders were blessed with a visit from Ms. Peace from the country of Burundi in Central Africa. Her ministry is to the single mothers of Burundi. Ms. Peace helps the women by providing them with sewing machines and a way to earn money. Our fifth and sixth graders have blessed Ms. Peace with money to help purchase some sewing machines for the women of Burundi. Each machine costs $125 and enables the mothers a way to provide food and shelter for their children. Through the ministry of Ms. Peace, women have come to know Jesus as their Savior and their Hope.

Mrs. Hammond's 9th Grade English I Class

The assignment was to write a persuasive essay. For extra points some students made a commercial to go with it. Here are two examples of the creative side of these students.
