Providing the Chronically Homeless with Housing First

This August, Cross Roads House will be implementing a new program, Permanent Supportive Housing, which will assist chronically homeless*, disabled individuals to break the cycle of homelessness.

This innovative program follows the Housing First model, which provides long-term rental assistance and ongoing intensive case management and support to some of the most vulnerable individuals experiencing homelessness. Case managers work with clients and landlords to obtain and maintain permanent housing and connect clients with a variety of community resources like health care, dental care, mental health care, and transportation.

"Many of the people who will benefit from this program have significant disabilities and have been bouncing between living in shelters and outdoors for years. To get them settled safely and securely in their own apartments, with much needed support services in place, will be a huge accomplishment."

This program is provided through a HUD permanent supportive housing grant.

*HUD defines "Chronically Homeless" as: Literally homeless (in a shelter, Safe Haven, or in a place not suitable for human habitation) for at least 12 consecutive months or 4 times in the last 3 years for a total time of at least 12 months.

Help fulfill a child's back to school needs

Help our young residents go back to school with the right tools and supplies.

Before long, it will "Back to School" time and our young residents could use some help to start the school year off on the right foot.

This year we have children who will be attending all grade levels of school, preschool through high school, each with very specific back to school lists. You can help us ensure each individual's needs are met prior to entering school by "adopting" a resident child and fulfilling their back to school wish list. Lists will include a backpack and supplies, or clothing and shoe needs.

Please contact Jessica Parker at (603)436-2218 or j.parker@crossroadshouse.org if you are interested in helping a child get the tools and supplies they will need to have a successful school year.
