"I was lost and now I'm found."

Mark on his last day at Cross Roads House.

Mark wasn't sure what to expect when he arrived at Cross Roads House in early March. "It was really stressful when I came in here. I almost wanted to kill myself. I was really down and out and bad. I ended up coming here because I knew this was a very good place to come to use all the resources."

Mark was familiar with Cross Roads House. He had stayed in the old shelter years ago. "This is my second tour here. I was here 10 years ago in the old building. I tried to make it out there in the world, but I just couldn't seem to go in the right direction." Mark was pleasantly surprised by the new shelter building, direct care staff, case managers, and volunteers who helped him get back on his feet.

Mark attributes much of his current success to the assistance he received from his case manager, Kelly. "She told me to stop, take a breath, take it easy, we will get to it when it comes. She helped me help myself. I had no direction and she set me in the right direction. I was lost and now I'm found."

Mark was able to move into an apartment of his own early this month. "[Cross Roads House] is a wicked special place. I don't know what people would do without a place like this."

Mark is looking forward to life in his new apartment. "I want to maintain my new place. I've got to take care of myself, do what the doctors say, conserve my money, and just live the way I've been wanting to live for a long time - a normal life."

Little Harbour Charitable Foundation Provides Support for Rent Ready Program

Anna Grace and Paul Holloway with CRH Executive Director, Martha Stone, at the Little Harbour Charitable Foundation Reception.

Cross Roads House would like to extend a special "Thank You," to the Little Harbour Charitable Foundation for awarding the shelter a grant in the amount of $10,000. Funding will support the shelter's Rent Ready program as well as other program initiatives.

Rent Ready is a comprehensive, day-long renter preparation class for residents of Cross Roads House. Topics such as budgeting, credit repair, conflict resolution, and tenant's rights are presented by a team of professionals including Masters Level Social Workers from Cross Roads House, and representatives from local banks, Rockingham Community Action Partnership, Portsmouth Housing Authority and New Hampshire Legal Assistance.

We are so grateful for the Little Harbour Charitable Foundation's generosity in ensuring our residents have access to programs and services that will help to break the cycle of homelessness.

Personal Care Items Needed

Have you been traveling this summer?

Cross Roads House needs unopened travel size shampoo, conditioner, soap, and body wash. Help provide the products for a clean, warm shower to one of the hundreds of people we will serve this year by dropping off personal care items at any time at the shelter.

Thank you!!
