"I'm a completely different person now."

Justin on his last day at Cross Roads House.

When Justin arrived at Cross Roads House he was facing a mountain of challenges - untreated mental illness, financial trouble, legal issues, and an active heroin problem "I was in the gutter. I remember my bed was in the pricker bushes. There was a bed and there were some suitcases and it was wrapped up in a tarp. I had bug bites all over me. I was so sick. And all I wanted to do was die. That's where I was before I got [to Cross Roads House]."

Justin decided to get healthy and start making some much-needed changes. He went to rehab, took responsibility for his actions, and started the process of healing emotionally and physically. With help from his case manager, Justin was able to connect with a variety of service agencies that could assist him in rebuilding his life.

"The awesome thing is that no matter who my case manager was they were always so focused on saying 'Alright, what can I do for you?' and I really appreciate that. They helped me with anything I needed help with."

Justin took control of his finances, paying off past debts and saving money so that he could move to permanent housing. He started regularly seeing a physician and a licensed alcohol and drug counselor (LADC) at Families First Health & Support Center. Justin also started working with the Assertive Community Treatment (ACT) team at Seacoast Mental Health Center to deal with his mental health issues.

Last month, Justin moved to permanent housing. He is grateful for all the assistance he received at the shelter.

"[Cross Roads House] changed my life. It literally put my life from the gutter to the clouds. I'm a completely different person now. I'm on top of my life."

Thank you for supporting
Cross Roads House

The children at Cross Roads House were delighted to have a visit from Santa and Mrs. Claus during our children's holiday party this year.

Cross Roads House would like to thank all the very thoughtful donors and volunteers who helped to make the holidays a little brighter for our residents. Whether you made a donation, adopted a family, purchased wish list items, or volunteered your time and talents, we are so grateful for your contribution.

This holiday season staff and volunteers helped to organize activities such as building gingerbread houses, preparing and serving special meals, providing portrait sessions for residents, and even a special visit from Santa and Mrs. Claus. Additionally, we were able to provide gifts for every resident.

We are so grateful for this outpouring of support from our friends in the community!

Thank you, Pease 'n Carrots

Everyone at Cross Roads House would like to extend a special thank you to the individuals and companies who participated in the 7th Annual Pease 'N Carrots Food Drive.

This year's Pease 'n Carrots Holiday Food Drive collected over 6,000 pounds of nonperishable food items and more than $4,000 in cash contributions, making this the most successful year to date. The winning team for the "My Cup Runneth Over" Challenge Cup this year was Long Term Care Partners.

Whether you donated food, volunteered to be a drop off site, or delivered donations to the shelter, your generosity is appreciated. Donations we received from the Annual Pease 'N Carrots Food Drive are so helpful in making sure that our volunteers can prepare more than 22,000 meals annually!
