It's time for summer camp!

Our young residents are excited to start summer camp! Pictured above is one of the children staying at Cross Roads House who will be attending camp at the YMCA and New Heights this year.

The weather is getting warmer and the school year is coming to a close. That means it is time for summer camp!

We are pleased that all 12 of our resident children who are old enough will be attending summer camp this year at the YMCA and New Heights.

You can help us provide a great summer camp experience for our young residents by donating the following items:

  • Sunscreen
  • Bug spray
  • Beach towels
  • Lunch boxes
  • Ice packs
  • Water bottles
Donations can be dropped off at the shelter, 600 Lafayette Road, Portsmouth, NH, at any time.

Your Gift Matters!!
Please make your donation before June 30th

The summer season is fast approaching and the beds at Cross Roads House remain full, with approximately 90 people seeking shelter here each night. Demand for shelter remains constant year round and so does our need for financial support for the vital services we provide.

With the end of our fiscal year fast approaching on June 30th, Cross Roads House is poised to meet our fundraising goals, but we need your help. Three quarters of our operating budget comes from private contributions. Please click here to make a gift before June 30th and be counted among our supporters.

Families and individuals experiencing homelessness in our community continue to turn to us when they have nowhere else to go. With your support, we can provide them with the life changing opportunity to move from homelessness to permanent housing.

Revenue Resources
Your support is critical.  Nearly three quarters of our operating revenue comes from private contributions from donors like you!

Pedal for Power:
Raising funds for solar electric panels at Cross Roads House

In July the Pedal for Power duo of Josh Andrews and Chris Pamboukes will be biking 2,000 miles to raise $50,000 to cover the cost of a solar power electric system for Cross Roads House.

Chris and Josh will be very busy with community events this month, leading up to their trip  in July. Be sure to visit their booth at Portsmouth's Market Square Day, Saturday, June 14th, or participate in one of their other community events. Click here to see the calendar of events or keep up to date by  following Pedal for Power on Facebook.

This system will provide electricity to the shelter while our existing solar panels heat the shelter's hot water for showers and laundry.    Rich Beauchesne photo/Portsmouth Herald

Volunteer Orientation - June 12, 2014

Interested in volunteering at Cross Roads House?

Last month a group of volunteers from Liberty Mutual helped to spruce up the shelter, inside and out. These two volunteers helped to build new shelving and reorganize our food pantry.

Seven nights a week, our volunteers prepare and serve dinner to our residents.

Find out how you can become a volunteer by attending Volunteer Orientation on Thursday, June 12, from 5:30-6:30 pm at the shelter. Orientation includes a shelter tour, an overview of kitchen operations, and volunteer expectations.

If you have any questions about volunteering or about our orientation program, e-mail JoAnn Rohde at j.rohde@crossroadshouse.org or call 603-436-2218 ext. 107. Pre-registration for orientation is not required.

Please Note:  Volunteers must be over 18 and out of high school to volunteer at the shelter
