Benefit by the Sea
Raises Over $270,000

Jim McCarthy, Cross Roads House board member, and Monica Ness at the 12th Annual Benefit by the Sea.

On Saturday, May 3, 2014 our 12th Annual Benefit by the Sea gala was held at the Wentworth by the Sea Hotel in New Castle, NH. The event raised over $270,000, which will provide critical operating revenue and help us provide shelter and services to the nearly 400 men, women and children who seek our assistance annually. During the event, board member Lex Scourby, who has served for 11 years, was honored for his extraordinary generosity and commitment to Cross Roads House.

Cross Roads House relies on private philanthropy for three quarters of its annual operating budget. Our annual gala is a vital part of securing the necessary funds to continue providing shelter and life changing services for the homeless in our community. Event proceeds enable us to provide the most basic human needs: a clean bed, warm meals, and the support of case managers along with a wide variety of programs and supportive services. We have close to 100 beds between our two buildings and on most nights throughout the year we are filled to capacity.

Thank you to all the sponsors and donors who helped us exceed our goal this year! Their generosity makes it possible for us to fulfill our mission to help our residents break the cycle of homelessness and move with dignity and purpose to decent, stable, housing.

Pedal for Power:
Raising funds for solar electric panels at Cross Roads House

This July, Josh Andrews and Chris Pamboukes will bike 2,000 miles from Vancouver, BC to San Diego, CA along the Pacific Coastline. Cross Roads House is excited to partner with Andrews and Pamboukes as they take this challenge even further, by organizing the "Pedal for Power" fundraiser. Their goal is to raise $50,000 which will cover the installation cost of a solar electric power system at the shelter. The two will be raising funds through sponsorships, a Donate-Per-Mile campaign, and upcoming community events.

The solar electric power installation will save Cross Roads House approximately $3,200 every year for the next 30 years or more and displace 27,000 pounds of carbon dioxide from our atmosphere each year.

Bill Epperson Wins
"Spirit of the Seacoast" Award

Congratulations to volunteer Bill Epperson for winning the "Spirit of the Seacoast Award" sponsored by the United Way of the Greater Seacoast. As part of his recognition Bill is able to designate $1,000 grant, provided by Federal Savings Bank, to the charity of his choice. Thanks, Bill, for designating Cross Roads House.

Bill Epperson has been a dedicated and dependable volunteer at Cross Roads House since 1984. Before the shelter had an adequate kitchen, Bill prepared meals off-site with fellow church members and brought those meals into the shelter to serve. He now independently coordinates three teams of volunteers, 12 to 15 people at any given time. Each group comes in monthly to cook and serve evening meals for our residents.

Bill's commitment to the men, women and children who have sought assistance at Cross Roads House in the past 30 years is remarkable. Congratulations, Bill!

The Spirit of the Seacoast Awards recognize volunteers living or volunteering within the United Way of the Greater Seacoast service area. Volunteers may be nominated in three categories: Youth (under 19), Adult (19 and older), and Group.
