Players being recognized are:
Billy Thomas (PHS Football): After playing for Peekskill, Thomas played at Boston College before going on to play for the Dallas Cowboys and the Kansas City Chiefs
Tre' Johnson (PHS Football): After playing for Peekskill, Johnson played at Temple College before going on to play for the Washington Redskins.
These players' jerseys will be retired at Torpy Field during a half-time ceremony at the Peekskill vs. Walter Panas football game. A reception will follow.

BOE Issues Revised 2013-14 Meeting Schedule
The Peekskill Board of Education has issued a revised schedule for their 2013-2014 workshop meetings. The locations of several meetings have been changed with the intent to highlight specific schools and their programs as they are the topic of meeting discussions. All Board of Education Business Meetings will continue to be held at the District Administration Building located at 1031 Elm Street in Peekskill.

Peekskill City School District Makes Safety a Priority
On Wednesday, September 25, at approximately 12:26 p.m., the Peekskill City School District in conjunction with the Peekskill Police Department and a BOCES Health and Safety Representative, conducted a live lockdown drill at Peekskill High School to test the District's emergency response and preparedness. The simulation lasted about one hour and was deemed successful by both the District and the Peekskill Police Department.
"The drill went great," said Peekskill Police Chief, Eric Johansen.

Peekskill Welcomes New Administrators

The Peekskill City School District welcomes our newest Administrators, Ms. Sherri Goffman and Ms. Joyce Long.
Ms. Goffman has joined the Peekskill City School District as the Interim Director of Educational Services and is responsible for overseeing Uriah Hill and the District elementary curriculum and program. She has over thirty-five years of experience in education, which includes working previously as an Educational Consultant, as well as the Deputy Superintendent in the Mineola Union Free School District. Previous to her position as Deputy Superintendent in Mineola, Ms. Goffman served as the Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction and Director of Elementary Education in the District.
Ms. Long has joined the Peekskill City School District as the Director of Special Education and is responsible for all of the students with special needs that have been identified in the District. Her background includes over twenty years in the area of special education, with a strong focus in administration for the past twelve years. She has typically educated students with severe emotional and behavioral difficulties with a concentration with the autistic population.

Oakside Elementary Receives Target Grant, Starts Family Reading Program

Oakside Elementary School is excited to announce the launch of the Oakside READS! family reading program this fall. The program, which was made possible through a $2,000 Early Childhood Reading Grant awarded to the school by Target, will promote family reading by having Oakside students partner with a family member to read a book each quarter.
"We are grateful to Target for their generosity," said Oakside Principal, Mary Foster. "This grant provides the opportunity to engage families in reading together."

Free Dental Sealant Program Returns to Peekskill Schools for 27th Year

Hudson River Health Care's Dental Sealant Program has once again returned to Peekskill schools. The twenty-seven year old program, which is sponsored by a grant from the New York State Department of Health and Hudson River Health Care, offers Peekskill students in grades 2 through 7 the opportunity to have a protective coating applied to their permanent molars and is provided free of charge to those without insurance coverage.
