Peekskill Middle School's Environmental Club Presents at Florida Symposium
For over 15 years students from Peekskill Middle School's Environmental Club have been participating in Wheelabrator Technologies' Symposium for Environment and Education. This year, between April 29 and May 2, students traveled to Sunrise, Florida to present their findings from a year's work of academic research on climate change and its effect on our region's weather. Their project, which was entitled, "Surviving Sandy: Ways to Stay Safe During a Major Storm," included the production of a public service announcement video about storm preparedness and informational pamphlets that were passed out in the school and to the surrounding community.
"We are extremely proud of our PKMS Environmental Symposium students," said PKMS teacher, Scott Tabone, who co-advises the club with Elizabeth Damiano. "They had a phenomenal presentation."

Hillcrest Celebrates Earth Day
At Hillcrest Elementary students from Ms. Diaz's, Ms. Rodriguez's, and Miss Bruno's class came together to celebrate Earth Day by planting a magnolia tree, two azalea bushes and an apple tree outside the front of the school. The children all contributed a dollar to purchase the tress and bushes and their donations were added to by staff as well. After the planting, the students received a certificate from the school's Principal, Michelle Zernone.
"We had a good day and will always now know that whenever we enter the school grounds, we made a difference as a team, as a school and as a community," said Diaz.

Woodside Career Day and Community Carnival

Last month Woodside Elementary welcomed members of the community who came to the school to talk to the children about different careers. Guests included police officers, firemen, EMTs, librarians, artists and even our own Athletic Directer, Lou Panzanaro. In keeping with the day's theme, each class made decorative hats that focused on specific careers and transformed students into doctors, dentists, veterinarians and chefs for the afternoon.
